Caught this guy roaming the field beside the house. Shot from my garage. I'm pretty sure it's a Red Fox though we do have plenty of Coyote in the area. Anyone know how to differentiate between them?

Dark tip tail is coyote, light tip is fox. Size, posture and tail helps distinguish between them also.

I have CRP ground surrounding my place with plentiful field mice, ring-neck pheasants and bob-white quail so we are serenaded by the little varmints on a regular basis. I see them periodically but only when I do not have the 22-250 with me.

I am keeping my eye open for a good used 20D. If I can get one hopefully I will get some shots like those.

I was hoping to see a fox in them, but it's still a great shot of a coyote. I've only seen a few wild fox's in my life and consider them to be very dificult to find or see out in the open.

Did you know the Red Fox is not native to North America? It's from Europe and was brought here many years ago.

I have seen a couple of foxes in the wild, most recently this past spring. I was at Turkey Run State Park in Indiana (fantastic place!) photographing Pileated Woodpeckers. I turned around and a fox was trotting down the trail. By the time I brought my camera up he was gone.

Plenty of foxes in Virginia. Sometimes at night I see them running cross the road back and forth - it stops, looks in the ditch and runs back - like chasing a rabbit in the culvert or something:)

Yup, now that I know the difference between a coyote and fox, I'd say you got yourself a fox there. Good job catching him with your camera, they're normally pretty shy.

I can't see it, but fom the looks of the ring around the tree (grass missing), I'd say that fox was on a leash. Any possibility?

Looks like the fox is sniffin' around the ashes of a burn pile to me. That "ring" doesn't go around the tree; it's in the foreground.

Nice shot JB4310! I love your trees too.

No, but if I caught one I probably would try it, one had a liter near by and though I didn't see them the kids saw the pups and said they were real cute. That's an area I crubbed out some bushes.
here's some grainy pics of a coyote.

Thanks, though it looks very rural, I live in an urban area of central CT just outside of Hartford, we do have a fair amount of wild life though. One day my wife called me and said it looked like a scene out of Bambi, 3 does running around the yard with a fox and a big buck looking in the kitchen window when she was washing the dishes, scared the heck out of her. Here's what I saw last Friday when I came home.
