Row Hippers and Cultivator

Hey Rravis,
Looks as if you did good. Don't know anything about your hippers but I do
think your cultivator is a Dearborn. Looks like mine that was a 2 row cut down
to make a one row. Works like a charm in the garden. I must say yours has
really nice paint job compared to mine. Mine has that nice patina look aka
rust, not one speck of paint anywhere. That is my planned project for the
summer. Paint my equipment and put a deck and backboard on the carryall.

Enjoy using them
David

Thanks for the replies!

Is there any way for me to tell for sure that it actually is a Dearborn??

Im brand new to this gardening stuff, so I'm gonna need advice on how to adjust the cultivator to the rows/tractor...

Travis_R - you scored a real deal on that row hipper - that thing is built like a tank. I hope to build something similar for the Spring, but I doubt it will be as nicely made.

Jim,

From the information I gathered, there's not but only 2 row hippers made like the one I have. The man I bought it from had 2 identical sets and said they were homemade. I bought one and he kept one for himself.

These should last for generations to come. And yes, I do feel like I'm very lucky to have something as well built as these hippers are. My mouth literally dropped when I first seen them before I got out my truck. I never plan to get rid of them. Now I just gotta adjust them to my tractor. Can't wait!

Thanks!

I'm interested in seeing how it works, so please post pics. Or a video if at all possible.

Travis,
I don't have any pics of the cultivator that I have but here is what it looked
like before it was modified to a one row.

Used Dearborn Three Point Hitch Cultivator | Tractor Implements

This one is what I found while surfing looking for info.

I could see in your pic where the name plate was riveted to the back frame,
that is where mine is located and they appear to have been the same size.

Do you know what your row spacing will be? If you do, let me know and I'll
try to get some pics and help you get it set up. My dad set this one up several
years ago and I wouldn't change anything on it except to put on the
center tine to make a shallow furrow to plant the seed and remove for
cultivating.

Just let me know either here or PM

Well, it looks like I have a Dearborn Cultivator! THANKS DAVID....

Ok, what is row spacing and how do I find it?

You determine your own row spacing.

I plant at 44" because it best fits my rear wheels of the 'Bota and my plants like that spacing too!

How do I determine? What do you mean you plant at 44 inches?

I know nothing about this stuff, but I have all the "tools" to make a garden!

Could I go by what this man says? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g21xhK3nfmc

Yes, but his is a little different than yours.

His has 3 discs per side, the best way to explain it is that the inner discs do the hilling, the outer 2 discs do the digging to tear up weeds and work the tire tracks.

The inner disc must be at the inside edge of the tire tracks, otherwise you will be trying to move 'compacted' ground into a hill, and it won't work the greatest.

Your row spacing will be determined by the inside width of your tractor tires.
