It could use a nut on the adjustment shaft to prevent it from being turned down too far and damaging the fitting.

I did this on one of my fittings by not paying close enough attention to what I was doing.

Yes, it was my fault, however in doing so I also discovered that the fitting was nowhere near as well constructed as the one I replaced it with.

I had some anxious moments wondering why my grapple would open extremely slowly and then drift close. One fitting I damaged and the other went bad - the hydraulic fitting vendor went on my list of what not to buy.

You can if you wish, that is why the barbed fitting.
