855 John Deere
Headlight
Model Year: 1997

I needed a rt headlight for my JD 855 and went to the local dealer. The service counter person told me the headlight would be $100.00 for a GE H9406. I told him I wait on it. I then went to a local auto parts store to see if I could find another make of light that would fit. The counter person look up the GE number and told me he could have one for me in two hours at a cost of $28.00. I now have two new GE H9406 at a cost of $59.02. So if you need a new headlight go to the auto parts store in your town. It needs to be local not a national store because I tried that.

Pros: Like the JD 855 a lot.
Cons: Over priced on parts.

855 John Deere
John Deere 855 MFWD with 70A FEL
Model Year: 1995

Great machine! Very impressed with the toughness! I looked at several compact JDs and they all seemed quality made but settled with the 855 because of the extra HP at the PTO and lifting capacity of the 70A FELvs 60. Also FWD is a must with a loader. It already proven its self very handy in many situations. The extra traction FWD provides with a full bucket just can't be beat. This tractor has become my right arm. I use every day from moving dirt to lifting outboard motors to tilling the ground. Very pleased with this machine!

Pros: Great Hp for the size of the machine. Hydrostatic trans is smooth.
Cons: Dealer prices for regular service parts seem pricey. I'll shop online next time.

855 John Deere
JD 855 w/Loader
Model Year: 1997

I have owned this compact tractor since 1999. I have had only routine maintenance to maintain the running condition of the loader and tractor. I use the tractor to move snow, dirt, materials and to cut grass first ten acre farmette and later for general use. Excellent piece of equipment.

Pros: Reliability, hydrostatic transmission, loader, finish mower and power steering.
Cons: Could use a little more power on occasion.

855 John Deere
JD 855 - All I need!
Model Year: 1991

I purchased this used in the spring of 2008, from a Parks Canada site. I know the man who was responsible for its maintenance (I'm retired from Parks), so I was confident it would be in good shape. It came with a 60" mower deck, a 50" front-mount snowblower and a 60" rear blade, so it handles my mowing and snow removal needs with ease. We have two acres here in eastern Ontario, and I anticipate working up some garden and food plot space this summer, so I'll be buying a few more attachments. Gotta tell ya, it just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy when I step out the front door and see it sitting in the drive shed - 'specially when there's a foot of snow on the ground...

Pros: Does what I want it to
Cons: None encountered yet

855 John Deere
Our First Tractor
Model Year: 0

We purchased this JD 855 used from a private party. It is a work horse and we love it. It came with an FEL, but not with a BH. It has a heavier frame than the 2320 and 2520. It is a bit taller than the 2320 and 2520. However, the 2320 and the 2520 are much easier to climb into. The 855 needs a step. Like the 2320 and 2520, our 855 has the HSD transmission AND it has 4WD. Getting parts for and service on our 855 from our local JD dealer, is not a problem, either. It moves rocks, rocks, rocks and more rocks without a hiccup. Even with the turf tires and hills here, it just keeps going and going. Even *I* can use it (wife) with ease (except for the climb into it because I'm short). We love it!

Pros: Heavy duty enough for us! A work horse.
Cons: It needs a step and a cup holder.
