BX24 Kubota
Tractor Novice
Model Year: 2008

Good, used tractors (even compacts) are hard to find; if reasonably priced, they are quickly "gobbled-up". Luckily, a friend knew I was looking, and one became available across the street from him (this friend is knowledgeable regarding equipment). I bought a 2008 BX24 for at least $2,000 less than those available. It, of course, has a FEL and backhoe in good shape, plus it has bucket forks, snowplow, 3-point lift attachment, and an OEM canopy. Because no service records could be found, I had the local Kubota dealer inspect and service it (the same friend loaned me his vehicle trailer). I have dug 250+ feet of trench with the backhoe and repaired .4 mile of easement with the FEL, so I'm still "getting the hang of it." Right now (Oct. 4) it is idle, as we are in partial forest shutdown (no general chainsaw or tractor usage).

Pros: Right size for requirements (12.34 acres); all the needed attachments.
Cons: Because of compact design, tight dimensions hinder maintenance.

Kubota BX24 TLB
Model Year: 2006

I bought the BX24 new as a multi-purpose machine with a 60" belly mower just after purchasing my 1 acre property that needed a lot of landscaping and trench work. After getting contractor quotations for trenching and adding up the cost of a snowblower, lawn tractor/mower and labor to help me with landscaping I had no problem spending the $16,000. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. The Kubota literally paid for itself in about 4 years of savings it created and it's fun to operate once caution and safety become second nature. I can't imagine being without it.

Pros: Well built, dependable and easy to operate.
Cons: Removing the backhoe requires a large flat surface or it becomes a nightmare.

BX24 Kubota
Versatile Machine
Model Year: 2007

I purchased this machine used with 300 hrs. It came with a front PTO snow blower and the common attachments that come with a BX24. My main reason for the machine is for snow removal. The front blower performs very well. The backhoe is a great bonus to have. The front loader is a work saver from moving soil to unloading items from the back of my truck. Recently I purchased a 3pt roto-tiller and it is an asset. I have nothing negative to report.

Pros: Universal.
Cons: Nothing negative to report.

Kubota BX 24 Review
Model Year: 2006

The tractor cost $16,000 in 2006 with backhoe & front-end loader. I've used the backhoe very few times. A waste of money for me. The first inline fuel filter is under the floorboard. There is no fuel cut-off valve. So, unless you have a lift, you have to (remove MMM) jack up the tractor, slide under the belly, pinch the fuel line & work as fast as you can to change filters while fuel runs down your arms. The second inline filter is near the engine. I find it easier to remove the bumper & engine cover to change it & the oil filter---pain. The front loader can be difficult to put on. Removing is not hard. The backhoe can be difficult to put back on. Make sure you set it on blocks when you remove it as the hydraulic will bleed down and then it's even more difficult to put on. I bought a 60" belly mower (MMM) for $1,800 in 2008. The MMM is very difficult to put on & remove by myself. Poor design, but it does a great job of mowing heavy, wet grass once it's on, but replace the first fuel filter before mounting it for the season (see above). Hooking equip. to the 3 point hitch is a pain for one man. You need a spreader-bar to keep the arms apart while backing to the implement. Overall, I wood look at something else before buying another Kubota product.

Pros: Good quality. Reliable machine.
Cons: Hard for one man to hook-up implements. Poor design.

BX24 Kubota
BX 24 Overview
Model Year: 2006

Bought new for $16,000 with loader and backhoe. I've used the backhoe very little. The backhoe can be a pain to put on. Make sure you set the backhoe on blocks. The hydraulics bleed down and if it's sitting on the ground, it is far more difficult to reattach to the tractor. The front loader can be a pain to put on and take off, too. I think John Deere has a better loader set-up. I paid $1,800 for the 60" mid-mount mower. It weighs 250 lbs and is a double, triple pain to put on and remove. But, once on the tractor, it does a good job. The dealer talked me into a 40" bush hog. He said a 48" was too big. So, now I can't mow my tire with and can't get to my fence line. Get a 48" rotary mower. The 1st of 2 fuel filters is under the floor board. So, if you have the belly mower on, you have to take it off to replace that filter. There is not a fuel shut-off, so you have to use a clamp on the fuel hose to keep from getting diesel dumped in your face. Not a good setup. But, the BX has never failed to start and run. Is very good on fuel usage. The lift arms on the 3 point hitch require a spreader bar or a helper person to attach to bush hogs, etc. The lift arms want to flop together. So, a quick hitch of some type is needed by a one man operator. I think I would buy a John Deere if I ever buy another compact tractor.

Pros: Reliable.
Cons: A lot of design issues make maintenance and equipment attachment/detachment difficult for a one man operator.

My Slightly Used BX24
Model Year: 2008

After many hours on this and other forums and dealer visits I decided the BX24 was my best choice. I don't mind the plastic hood nor does the abrupt stopping issue bother me. Especially when I compared what I payed to what a new BX25 costs. I bought a Bro-tek thumb and am thrilled w/ how it works. Also bought a Woods York type rake for the driveway.

Pros: Powerful, but small enough to wiggle into tight spots.
Cons: Having safety switch issues which I think I solved by asking for advice here.

Learning the BX-24
Model Year: 2009

I have 2.5 acres and live in the country outside Albuquerque, New Mexico. I bought a lightly used (200 hours) 2009 BX-24 on Craigslist that came with a Land Pride RTR0550 rototiller and an RCR1548 rotary cutter. I've since added a Land Pride blade (RB0560) and landscape rake (LR1560). This is the first tractor I have owned, so I have don't really have experience in comparing the BX-24's performance to anything else. The BX-24 is a subcompact tractor - full featured, but small. My property is fully fenced with two gates and is a mixture of open field and trees. A significant advantage of the BX-24 is that it is highly mobile and can get into small areas that a tractor that was any larger couldn't reach. I believe that its small size combined with its robust construction is what I value most about this tractor for my situation. The small size comes at a cost, though. I haven't really been bothered by the modest capacity of the FEL. Sometimes when moving bulky items it would be nicer to have a little more volume, but that hasn't been a real issue. I have noticed the lack of height and reach of the FEL more than its limited volume. The BX-24 has a 23 HP engine and a single hydraulic system for both the transmission and the implements. When digging a hole with the backhoe I particularly notice the lack of power that comes with this small a tractor. It is easier to stall hydraulics when digging with the backhoe than I would really like. I have dug a 5 foot deep hole with the backhoe, so it certainly can get the job done, but more power would be nice! It is easy to swap out attachments on the 3-point hitch and it is not difficult to put on or remove the backhoe. Kubota did a good job engineering the tractor. The BX-24 has been fantastically useful around the property in the few months that I have owned it. I'm doing a major landscaping project and have moved many yards of compost, dirt, gravel, and mulch. The small size of the tractor lets me sneak into places where I need to move material that I couldn't with anything bigger. I've used the tractor to rototill and plant a small field that would have been impossible to do without a tractor. The FEL has also been useful in hauling water to our compost pile and to trees far away from our hose bibs. And the uses go on, and on... How did I ever get by without a tractor? My final comment is that we have a Kubota dealer in Albuquerque, Mesa Tractor. I'm very glad to have a dedicated dealership to work with. They have been very helpful when doing maintenance and have the spare parts, accessories, and experience I have needed readily available. One of the reasons I chose to buy a Kubota was because there is a local dealer. I would recommend including this factor in your purchasing decision.

Pros: Excellent size and capability for small properties. Cat 1 implements can be used effectively, so there are lots of tools you can use.
Cons: Modest power, but in all fairness adequate for my tasks.

Well made tractor, easy to use, good power. A few questionable design decisions such as a plastic tranny cooling fan located in the undercarriage susceptible to getting sheared off by sticks.

Pros: Great power to size ratio.
Cons: As above.

BX24 Kubota
Great Little Workhorse. Fits Anywhere, Does Most Everything.
Model Year: 2008

I bought my BX24 (named Elbow Grease) about 15 months ago in a private sale. The only maintenance I've done is lubing, and creating a skid plate for the tranny fan; adding hooks to the outer FEL corners; and a set of homemade brush/pallet forks. I've lifted and loaded 16' logs onto my trail weighing over 1,000 pounds. I've dug out stumps from 22-24" trees. I plow my drive and several others with a rear blade, and the FEL saved me in last year's epic Massachusetts snowfall (2nd highest on record).

Pros: Versatile, small and agile, fuel sipper, does more than you'd expect.
Cons: FEL bucket size, no aux. lighting, traction in greasy mud.

Best Cordless Power Tool: BX24
Model Year: 2005

I bought the BX24 to plant 3 flowering crab-apple trees that my wife bought, or so I tell her. Since then I have planted a few more trees, dug stumps and trenches, moved tons of gravel, hauled firewood, dug post holes and lots of other tasks. I've never had a bit of trouble with it. I can't imagine my life without the little orange "mule".

Pros: Reliable, versatile, powerful, maneuverable.
Cons: None.

The Little Tractor That Could
Model Year: 2008

It came with a loader and backhoe. I used it to build some terraces using some pretty big boulders. It cleans out my goat pens, hauls firewood and railroad ties, and rakes the stone in the driveway.

Pros: Great for cleaning out small stalls and barn lots.
Cons: The forward pedal hangs up when you let off. You have to touch the back pedal which causes a mild whiplash.

BX24 Kubota
BX for the Neighborhood
Model Year: 2006

I bought my BX for my 1/3 acre lot due to long driveway snow removal and a big landscaping project moving lots of dirt. It has done both very efficiently and while it takes little bites, it just keep chewing until it swallows the whole elephant. Neighbors love me as it is a berm busting monster after a snow storm.

Pros: Low fuel consumption, great traction, reliable.
Cons: Needs a bit more power on the bucket and hoe.

BX24 Kubota
BX 24 with 60 in MMM, FEL and HN
Model Year: 2008

Purchased 2008 model almost new at 180 hours from private individual. Back hoe was used only once. So far I absolutely LOVE this tractor and I am VERY impressed with the power and the fuel economy. I was worried about the lack of horsepower but for what I am using it for it is more than adequate. Hauling wood, barn rock, spreading gravel, digging trench drains, etc. Just about anything to make the neighbor jealous! It has some issues though. The plastic panel cover over the battery box doesn't fit tightly to the dashboard area and I had to apply some stainless self tapping screws to tighten them down. Jerky reverse pedal stops you really hard. These are all minor issues except for the jerky pedal. I am told the newer models BX 25 it is fixed and that they went back to metal hoods and fenders. All in all I would still buy this tractor all over again. You can't beat Orange! Got a super price for it too. Lucked out.

Pros: Power, fuel economy, turning radius, agility, large operator deck, stability with LCG. Ease of removal of attachments and re-attaching. Cost-value ratio excellent.
Cons: Ventilation battery cover: Cheap plastic springing open. Had to screw them 'wings' down. Plastic Hood and fenders are too vulnerable. Reverse pedal jerks slams to stop. Forward pedal creeps when pressure released. Poor lighting with FEL in place. Needs auxilliary lights really bad.

BX24 Kubota
New to Tractors
Model Year: 2007

Great little machine is perfect for my small 1+ acre. Had to change the seat, chop the loader control in half, repair cracked fenders (a little pvc & cement) and cut the brake pedal arm so it is next to forward pedal and not so high. It now fits me perfectly. Have 54 hours of fun on it already. It came with a wood chipper and tiller that had few hours on them. No regrets.

Pros: Small size makes it extremely maneuverable.
Cons: Plastic fenders---not cool.

New tractor owner. Definitely need ROPS as is much less stable than I would have thought (inexperience?). Accomplished clearing 3/4 acre, carrying 8' pine logs with loader and digging out stumps with the backhoe. Found I could have used more hydraulic power and more weight for getting out the hardwood stumps. I use a back-end snowblower for my long driveway (great job). Purchased chipper and grader attachments from DR and they do good jobs. At time of tractor purchase also get a lawnmower attachment which has never been used since I always have the loader & backhoe attached.

Pros: Probably the right size/power loader/backhoe combo for my needs.
Cons: Could have used a little more hydraulic power tractor weight.

A Piece of Junk
Model Year: 2006

I run a cemetery. In 2006, we bought a Kubota BX24 brand new. Within a month, we lost the transmission. It took another month to get the parts from Japan. Also, you have to have the throttle almost full blast to run the backhoe and front bucket. When I asked the dealer about it, he said its a safety feature. Funny, none of the others I've seen does that. I got stuck with this machine because my boss bought it without trying it out first because the foreman had a Kubota and liked it. It's too small and has no power in the front bucket at all the dealings I've had with the dealer has been comical to say the least. I had a recall on it. They were supposed to send someone to fix it that - was about 4 years ago. I'm still waiting. Even my boss, after he saw it and the problems we had with it, hated the machine. In my opinion, stay away from Kubota.

Pros: It has 4 wheel drive.
Cons: Everything else.

Just over a week with it not and nothing comes close to stopping it. Picked up a used mower deck off a BX22 for 400 a little modification and mows like a dream. Don't hesitate too buy one. Great machine.

Pros: Power, attachments, quiet, smooth operation.
Cons: None so far.

2007 Kubota BX24
Model Year: 2008

For the price, better repair & maintenance literature should be supplied; also discounted package deals for attachments when purchased new. Bucket small for heavy snowfall of northern BC winters; steel hood & deck, and exhaust stack would be nice; throttle return and hydrostatic drive pedal springs are too abrupt & throttle does not hold rpm's well. Overall, it runs great, nimble even with backhoe reaches tight areas; great for small property, high resale value.

Pros: Runs awesome, high value, nimble & versatile.
Cons: More weight, and a bit wider & higher would be nice.
