Massey Ferguson 135
Model Year: 1973

Overall an excellent tractor for what I need it for. I use it for deer food plots, bush hogging, pulling logs to my sawmill, large garden, plots. I have a 5 ft tiller which was a very good investment, 2 blade plow, disc, bushhog, post hole digger, pallet lift, 6ft blade. It is an all purpose tractor.

Pros: Heavy duty. Well built.
Cons: None.

MF 135 Darned Good Machine
Model Year: 1975

I am a vineyard owner and the MF 135 has been a really good little worker from day one. I have had it in the shop two times since 1975. Once the power steering went out and the other time the seals on the three point lift arms were leaking and it wouldn't lift well. I think I paid $6,000 for it and I bought it from a very good dealer in Watsonville, Ca.---C&N Tractor. I can't imagine a better value.

Pros: A good worker.
Cons: So good a worker I don't want to get off.

Pros: Easy to operate.
Cons: Need to purchase owners/operators manual.

First Tractor
Model Year: 1968

Found a sound-looking machine, and after checking lubrication, replacing old fuel/coolant, stuck in a battery and cranked? The creature surprised me. It roared to life on the second turn. After breathing out some smelly black smoke, it settled down to a steady panting. Sprayed generous amounts of WD40 to free up the frozen levers controls for PTO and Hydraulics. You guessed it---they worked. Considering the hard times (plowing the clay) like soil over the years as a youth in a damp tropical island on the northern border of Venezuela [Trinidad]. It will need some work. I bought it "as is where is" from a retired farmer. No electrical gauges work, the charging system is out and electrical system is dead. Loose wires hanging everywhere. There is normal to severe wear everywhere. I could find no significant oil leaks on the machine. I own dump trucks and I purchased this machine to be used almost exclusively to do brush cutting on undulating pasture surfaces. I know I will need all the help I can get in the coming weeks and months ahead.

Pros: Starts and show little smoke.
Cons: Electrical system needs total revamp.

MF135 Age Unknown
Model Year: 1970

Hi, I found this MF135 stored at a local hospital for about 10 years. They said it was old & broken! I took a battery for it and reconnected the ignition wires and it started immediately. So I decided to fix the 'broken' thing. It was a shaft in the rear axle housing that supports the arm with the hollow balls. I removed wheel, mudguard and trumpet housing with drive shaft brake drum etc (alone). I got a pin locally, diameter is bigger than the old one; stronger maybe. I reinstalled everything on Saturday by myself (64 years old). I had drained the few litres of transmission oil it had, so also drained the engine oil. I will get 2 drums of Supertractor Universal 15w40 oil and that will do the engine and transmission nicely. This tractor has red headlamps on brackets at the side of the engine cover and on the rear mudguards. Also has 2 stage clutch , twin plate design and a reverse/3 speed gear lever with another for hi/low. The dash has full guages and this seems to confirm it is a deluxe model. What year? I don't know. The engine plate is obliterated , what other clues are there? It is almost complete, just needs some T.L.C. and it will be as good as new. We want to get a 2 share plough and rotavator. I found an old, bit rusty ripper which I can sandblast & repaint, it'll do the job. Any readers with a clue how to pinpoint the age. Front wheel still had the red tubes in them! I still have to power wash the whole thing so might find some additional numbers afterwards. Any help appreciated, thanks Bob

Pros: Can't say yet but 135 has a very good reputation.
Cons: Probably no power steering. I'll confirm after driving it.

MF-135 Diesel

Great little tractor! The only times it has failed to start on the first try is on the occasions I forgot to release the kill lever. I have a much newer and more powerful JD 5320 with many more features, but I still turn to the MF on most occasions. It is a strong little tractor and can fit in to tight spots of my woodland.

Pros: Reliable, powerful.
Cons: No power steering.

MF135 Massey Ferguson
A Fairly Green Machine
Model Year: 1965

We bought this machine to help us manage our 5 acre holding. In addition to growing most of our own fruit and vegetables and have areas devoted to wildlife and biomass. As we age we needed a machine to help us manage some of these features. The tractor is old but has been loved. We feel it is an appropriate way of reusing the machine.

Pros: Old basic and fairly reliable engineering.
Cons: Some bits will be beyond our capacity to service.

Good Equipment
Model Year: 1972

We bought is with less than 1800 hours on it. It is still tight, no leaks, new paint, good rubber, and everything works as it is supposed to. If anything, I maybe would like to have more power for larger jobs, but this tractor is great and is not meant to do some of the things that we need to have done. We can borrow a neighbors tractor for other/larger jobs.

Pros: Solid and reliable.
Cons: None.

MF135 Massey Ferguson
Family Massey
Model Year: 1975

Dad bought the tractor in 1979, it had 2500hrs on it! He sold his Ford 8n to my uncle! Tractor ran great for the years of heck my dad put it through, but cancer took him in 1990 and the Massey stayed at the home place doing various chores from gardening to shredding, discing, plowing, blading (!), and countless other things! About 1991, I pulled the engine out! It wasn't a bad job cause I was an industrial equipment mechanic! the engine was using oil and smoking a little! At any rate, I took the disassembled engine to a buddy's machine shop and we put in new liners and pistons, rings bearings, etc., the whole works. Even put in the dual clutch discs in new too. At any rate, it has been a great tractor with a few small mods, battery disconnect switch, solar panel to keep charge up in battery over long durations of in activity. Still running strong today. I would recommend this tractor to any with 2-10 acres to care! Minimal mechanical knowledge needed.

Pros: 3cyl perkins engine runs strong; hydraulic system controls are adequate.
Cons: Lack of external hyd. ports and lack of accessory drive on engine for aux hyd. pump a hindrance.

Poor Maintenance of Old Tractors
Model Year: 1978

I inherited the tractor with the farm, and it is a real shame that it has been so poorly maintained. It is surprising reliable.

Pros: Cheap, easily available spares.
Cons: Little knowledge left of the intricacies of the model.

This is a magnificent tractor. Even at 44 years from manufacture, the only tractor I would trade it for is one just like it.

Pros: As though it was designed for me.
Cons: Throttle linkage design is poor.

135 and Jarret Slasher
Model Year: 1970

She's a sweet little unit and I was stoked to find her. The slasher is in great condition. She's a petrol model which I was a little disappointed with but once I find what's causing the misfire (may be the head gasket at this early stage of inspection) and that is repaired I am looking forward to hookin' up the log splitter, pullin' the scab off a nice shiraz and preparing for wet winter. Safely of course. I will post some pics when I get chance. Not big on the photo thing. Cheers, Brenton

Pros: Plenty.
Cons: None.

MF135 1969 Tractor As Good As New
Model Year: 1969

Well not really; and I am actually in New Zealand but the site doesn't accept that as a country. This tractor was found on the roadside with a For Sale sign hanging off it in a disinterested manner. We fell in love with the red and silver paint first, and only after it was home on the 20 acre block did we notice what harm had been done by using it for boat haulage. To my amazement though, most of the parts are still available, and save for the stabilizer brackets being rusted away, almost everything is in good working condition. I found manuals, steering wheel, mechanical parts and even a new rev. counter on the internet. This machine ticks all the boxes for our requirements and now has a brand new wood chipper and a fertilizer spreader to go with it. It starts and runs like a dream. There is definitely something to be said for the quality of build that was the accepted way back then.

Pros: Love the red paint.
Cons: Horses eat the vinyl seat.
