X300 John Deere
x300 48"
Model Year: 2010

My first new rider is the jd x300 48" deck, with the 17hp Kawasaki engine. it replaces my 8 year old Murray 11 hp. What a difference. This John Deere is so smooth and easy to operate and maneuver. The 2 wheel steering is more than adequate for sharp turns. I am still surprised at how tight the turning radius is. One pedal forward, one pedal reverse. I love the Kawasaki engine...it is so quiet and smooth. I was hoping the 17 hp was enough...it is plenty. Mows beautifully at any height setting. Also very stable on pretty steep slopes, and good pulling power up hills. Great headlights. I cant wait to get on this thing every weekend. I also use it for getting around the farm and pull my sears trailer a lot. I am so glad I went with the JD. it is a great machine.

Pros: Smooth, Quiet and plenty of power...great cut.
Cons: reverse mowing safety took a while to get used to...but fine now.

X300 John Deere
X300R - Poor Resale, Deck Problems
Model Year: 2009

I got the X300R since I always bag and having nothing projecting out either side seemed good for ease of mowing. It was nice to have that, but the deck would not stay level. I had the dealer do a warranty service on it, they started out telling me they'd fix it, but nothing changed. Mow an acre, and the deck would be 1/2 inch different left to right. The X300R is a nice little machine if you have not much to mow, but it's build quality is variable. Some here have had good units, mine was a lemon.

Pros: Bagging without any side projections
Cons: Deck would not stay level, dealer unable to do anything about it.

best lawn tractor yet.have had snapper and jd from the 70 s and ford from 80 s but this beats all.lots of power, quiet and perfect cut.i have a lot of maple and fir trees and it picks up all leaves, needles, cones and small boughs.like a giant shop vac on wheels.would recommend to anyone looking for a quality product

Pros: ease of deck removal, great steering and turning radius
Cons: chute plugged up once or twice--my fault for cutting wet grass too short

I have the mower deck and 44" snowblower. The original battery only lasted one year and then John Deere had a problem with the electronic control module. Mine went out 3 times before the dealer told me that you have top disconnect the battery before putting a charger on it.

Pros: smooth and comfortable
Cons: Hydrastatic trans is noisy hope it lasts

just right
Model Year: 2008

I bought this new to take care of one acre with about a 20' elevation change front to rear. The mower has done nothing wrong so far and is very easy to operate. I also use it to tow a little garden trailer that is often filled with rocks as I work the ground. The Kawasaki twin cylinder engine is quiet, always starts easily and has plenty of power to do the job. I have added a mulching kit which does a fine job, especially with leaves in the autumn. Maintenance parts are rather pricey, but the quality of the mower reflects the price I suppose. I have no doubt that it will last for many, many years.

Pros: ease of operation
Cons: sealed differential may be an issue some day
