When the lining fills up with sawdust from the cuts in the outer shell![]()
Mine are getting pretty oily and I’m not going to wash them so they will be getting replaced. I’ve had them 3 years.
Username seems appropriate.
You should replace them any time you've taken a serious enough hit to pull some fibers.
Also, oil is the enemy of many of these protective fibers. When the chaps have become oil soaked over time, you are not getting the protection you did when they were newer.
For these reasons I just ordered a new pair yesterday. I also got them 2 inches longer, my old ones stopped well above the top of my foot.
Labonville used to have a crazy measuring system (not your inseam), I think they changed it. I do not know about others.
Mine are getting pretty grimy. Adhering to man code and and am proud of of how they look and smell. I am the only one that has to see them as they live in my pickup so it kinda defeats the man code reason. I have a new pair but have not worn them yet, maybe if I ever cut into the current pair, which I have never done. Yet.

Another question... how many people wear safety pants instead of chaps?
I don't think anyone measures chainsaw chaps by the inseam. At least I've never seen any of the "top-tier brands" measure that way. They measure from the belt-line down to the bottom of the pant leg. Labonville just does a better job of publicizing that way of measuring than some others do.
Chainsaw PANTS are measured by the inseam length.
