How often do you replace your chainsaw chaps?

You should replace them any time you've taken a serious enough hit to pull some fibers.

Also, oil is the enemy of many of these protective fibers. When the chaps have become oil soaked over time, you are not getting the protection you did when they were newer.

For these reasons I just ordered a new pair yesterday. I also got them 2 inches longer, my old ones stopped well above the top of my foot.

Mine are getting pretty grimy. Adhering to man code and and am proud of of how they look and smell. I am the only one that has to see them as they live in my pickup so it kinda defeats the man code reason. I have a new pair but have not worn them yet, maybe if I ever cut into the current pair, which I have never done. Yet.

I haven't established how to determine time to replace. After over 50 years of extensive chain saw usage I cut my leg, not seriously but enough to really get my attention. I bought a pair of chaps 2-3 years ago. I suppose when they get enough cuts and years for me to judge them no longer protective.

Labonville used to have a crazy measuring system (not your inseam), I think they changed it. I do not know about others.

I did get Labonville chaps. They suggest measuring from the top of your pants to the top of your foot, no inseam measurements. My old ones were Labonville also (short), so I got the next longer size (regular).

Yeah, I don't really like the look of brand new chaps either. Then someone mentioned: If you really don't care how you look, why do you care if they look new. I had to grant that he had a point. Mine are getting old enough and I've forgotten to put the cap on and dumped either oil or gas on them enough that I'm sure it's starting to affect the integrity of the fibers. No obvious damage, but it's time to replace them.

I've been holding off because I thought I might try some Pfanner Gladiator Ventilation pants this time around, rather than chaps. However, I'd really like to try some on before I buy, but there are no dealers anywhere near me. I was hoping someone would be at the Logging Expo in VT in Mat, since that's only about 45 min to an hour from me, but that has been postponed.

I don't think anyone measures chainsaw chaps by the inseam. At least I've never seen any of the "top-tier brands" measure that way. They measure from the belt-line down to the bottom of the pant leg. Labonville just does a better job of publicizing that way of measuring than some others do.

Chainsaw PANTS are measured by the inseam length.

I replaced my last chaps because they were about 14 years old and half of the straps were broken, tied together or missing. Also as somebody else mentioned, I may have neglected to put the cover on the oil reservoir a few times, and all of that oil can't do the fibers any good. I bought a second pair a few months later because we were 50 miles from home when I realized that the first pair was in my other truck. Now I have a pair for each pickup, and don't have that problem.

Another question... how many people wear safety pants instead of chaps?

I had a pair of Husqvarna chainsaw pants years ago. I liked them OK. They were not as nice as what is available now. Gained a few pounds, and they wouldn't fit anymore, so I gave them to my younger brother.

I do not buy chaps often enough to remember. This is from Labonvilles website for chaps. Why they show inseam on there, I do not know since they do not size by it. I thought they changed but I guess not.
