New Holland loader

This was a fun discussion and if I was in radman's situation I would just forget about this since he plans on selling the tractor anyway. It seems like a headache trying to make sure his tractor is compatable with this loader and even if it is any prospective buyer will look at the red Case-IH tractor with a blue New Holland loader and think it is cobbled together regardless to if it has a joystick or not.

The NH loader idea is just an option. An friend of mine is considering buying the DX29. The loader maybe an option for him. He owns 4 acres and currently has an 8N ford with no loader. I will talk with the dealer tomorrow and see what he wants for the loader. I am not a motivated loader buyer at this time but considering the options available. I think the dealer really wants to get rid of these loaders and this may make a good deal for someone. If I can get it really cheap, it may make a fall/winter project. If I buy the "blue" and put it on the tractor, it will become "red"!

I understand, I like to run ideas past the board here as well. Sometimes I gain other options that work better, other times I find out it just doesn't make sense what I am thinking, then there are a few times where what I was thinking actually did make sense:eek:

Please post back what the dealer is asking for on these loaders as I am curious. I don't need one but it is always nice to know what type of deals can be found.

I知 pretty sure both MikePA and I want to give him the best advice based on the fact that he said he would probably sell the tractor. We both feel the loader with a joystick would enhance the tractor, while using the rear remotes might actually lessen the attractiveness of the tractor to a buyer.
Totally agree.

And just to keep this thread in context, we're talking about what compact tractors, specifically a DX29, not utility tractors or 'farm' tractors, are typically equipped with when they have a loader installed. It also has a lot to do with who is buying the compact tractor. A farmer might look at a compact tractor with a loader using the rear remotes as no big deal. A non-farmer would probably have a much different opinion.

That is true, most farmers are use to loader tractors from before joysticks were common so using them is not a big deal. I like using the joystick on my TN as it is a lot easier but the Ford TLB has two levers and when you are use to those it isn't a big deal.

Rick, aren't the models that come with the joystick already on ordered as loader ready tractors? If so what other options are installed to make these tractors loader ready? Is it just the remotes with the joystick instead of two levers? Do the loader mounts come on also?

Loader ready means a midmount joystick valve and loader frame mounts.

By the way, he also had a 16LA and two 18LA loaders that appeared to have never been used. Also had a 12LA and used 7308.

Radman1, if you don't buy the loader, can you tell us who your dealer is so somebody else might take advantage of these great deals? Iron Horse kinda touched on how I feel when he said to buy all of them. I wouldn't do that, but I would sure be tempted to buy another 16LA if the price was right and the dealer was in my area. Having it to build a special loader configuration or even to scavenge for repair parts could make it worth the money.

I know you would not want to post the dealer while you are negotiating a deal, but when you finalize your decision it would be nice to know.

As you mentioned, you tractor uses the 14LA loader. Of course, Case calls it the LX114, so you will have to buy decals for it if you want to make it completely authentic looking.

The 14LA and 12LA do not have a subframe, but the 16LA and 18LA do. I would not need a subframe for an additional loader, but anyone buying the 16LA or 18LA for a tractor without a loader would need the subframe too.

I have an idea that these loaders won't last long. Like you, I think this is one heck of a great deal.

Radman1,

You mentioned in one of your earlier posts this dealer also has a used 7308 loader for sale. In my opinion, this is the loader you should be considering for your tractor. I also have a 2002 model DX33 with the Case IH L130 loader. The L130 is the NH 7308 loader painted red for your model year tractor. As jinman stated earlier, when the Case IH LX114 loader (NH LX14 model) was introduced in 2004, this coincided with the name change of the red tractors to Farmall DX series machines. Along with this name change, the front axel was made larger to handle the increased load capacity of the curved-boom loader.

I understand with the age of your machine that it is no longer under warranty, however, with the increased lift capacity of the curved boom loader, you could be setting up the next owner for potential breakage. As for usefulness of the L130 / 7308 loader, I think that has been discussed at some length here on TBN and if you search, you will find plenty of satisfied L130 / 7308 owners and operators.

Just my 2 cents, I hope it helps,

CBox

Well, talked to the dealer again. He says the price of a new 14LA is $4350. Says he will sell this used loader for 1/2 that amount ($2175). I think that is way overpriced for used, noncurrent model loader, with peeling paint, wrong color for my tractor, no warranty and still need longer hoses. I might consider it for $1000 but not at that price. What do you guys think?

I didn't ask what he wanted for the 7308 which is in rougher condition.

Well, the easiest way is to look at it like this. If you buy the loader, paint it up, add longer hoses and figure in your time will your tractor be worth more then that or will you break even? If you are not going to make anything for your time and hassle then forget it. If you feel doing this will make you an extra $1k or so then go for it.

At the dealers current selling price, I think I would be lucky to break even if I leave the loader in its current condition and blue color. The Dx29 is very low hours and in excellent condition. Putting the loader on as it currently is significantly detracts from the overall condition of the tractor. I will let the idea sit for awhile and call another dealer I know well and get a true price of a new loader. $4350 seems a little high for a new loader without any control valves or quick attach bucket. Maybe I am off on the price of a new loader with the increasing steel prices.
