I am not familiar with this problem.

Assuming it is from brush, do we need a guard of some sort?

Don't know how much of a problem it is, but my first tear was at < 40 hours, and now I have a spare thanks to the brake fluid/super glue tip.

Im doing a lot of clearing in the woods and try to be careful about the paths I take. Time will tell whether this becomes routine (I hope not).

Where in Maine, Jay? I am near Bangor and deal with Northwood Power. I had the same boot problem. I tore one of mine while bush-hoggin. I had them replace it during my 50hr check-up. It was a good think I took it in because somewhere along the way, I must have gotten a stick up into my tranny cooling fan it it ripped off all the fins. I had not noticed it but they replaced that, too. So, be careful in the woods as that can happen even with the filter guard in place. I am going to make a screen out of expanded metal to keep stuff out but let air get through. I'll post pics when I am done.

This tractor is designed and manufactured by Iseki in Japan and sold under other names. Here is the same tractor in blue sold under the Iseki name.

I'm in Belgrade and bought mine from Waterman's in Sabattus. The folks at both dealerships impressed me, but Sabattus is about 20 miles closer, so I went with them.

The boot replacement was pretty straight forward and I did the 50 hour service myself - although I just remembered that I still need to change the fuel filter (which I have here).

I didn't look at the cooling fins, thanks for mentioning that - I'll put that on my afternoon "to do" list.

I also need to get more diesel fuel, which is nice to do on a sunny day so that I can have all the windows open for the ride home from the gas station.

And given the weather this summer, I have until about 3:00 do to all that so that we can have our daily drenching.

The good news has been that I have been able to get a lot of tractor projects done, the flip side is that I have put less than 1,000 miles on my motorcycle....:(

The fuel filter by the book doesn't need changing until 250 hr. not 50 hr. Since it has only filtered about 25 gal. it might be a little soon to change. Also did you remove the rod end from the spindle or just unscrew the tie rod from the rod end to RR the boot?

Guess I should have looked at the book before buying that expensive little fuel filter  Hopefully it will still be useful (and I can find it) in a couple years when I need it.

To replace the dust boot, I just counted the exposed threads on the tie rod, then loosened the locking nut and unscrewed the tie rod from the rod end - then added some grease, replaced the boot, and wrestled with the annoying spring clamp thingy.

I also fixed the old dust boot using brake cleaner and super glue so now I have a spare ready to go for the *next time*.
