Need barn ramp gravel 304 vs 411 queston

The top of the drive with just #304 is mostly sand and dust when dry, this turns into a wet cement like material in the spring, and during the rainy season. Both get tracked into the garage and the house. And the wet stuff can be messy on the vehicles.

A thin layer of #57 prevents the tires, or your shoes from contacting the problem. The drive also looks much better with the "cap".

Thanks for the info -Matt

Hey from Vermilion!

If your concern is material pushing the sides. Try an old farmers trick:

Mix or dump a few bags of concrete dry mix with with your 304's (near the sides). Don't take the time to water in the concrete mix. Mother nature will handle the task for you!
You'll be surprised how good the results. Good luck!

Can yoiu explain this some more? Sounds interesting.

Adding bagged concrete mix or Portland cement to the base material will stiffen the base material. If your concern is materials pushing out from the sides of your ramp. Add a few bags
of concrete mix or Portland cement. Water in the mix, if you can, or wait until for the rains to
set the dry mix. You can use the same trick to fix a pot hole in a gravel drive. ;)

Do I just sprinkle the stuff on top like powdered sugar on a cookie? Can I also do this on the ramp in general to omprove the surface? Sounds like a great idea.
