B7800 Vs. L2800HST

If you are keeping the BX, I think the L might be the way to go. You might as well get the backhoe now as it will save you money. If you go with an aftermarket hoe later down the road, the financing will not be nearly as good. I bought my 2800 2 years ago and just purchased the BH75 hoe a few months ago. I probably could have saved a fair amount of money had I purchased it with the tractor. The L2800 is a solid, sturdy machine and handles the hoe quite well.

The Kubota BH75 is a great unit that is tight to the tractor and would give you good overall performance. Price is right and it fits into Kubota's special interest rate.

Have you driven both tractors? The extra size of the L makes it much smoother and more comfortable IMO. If you don't need the smaller size of the B, I would definitely recommend the L.

As the owner of a B, I agree STRONGLY with this. Larger frame of the L is generally nicer and more stable.

Just for comparison when I bought my L3400 I purchased it with a Woods BH-80x. So far I have been very pleased with it.

IMHO, over all when you look at the BH75A next to a BH80x side by side, the 80x is a much stronger piece of hardware. The steel members of the subframe supporting the hoe all appear to be over engineered and fit the tractor very nicely. The stabalizers are made of cast iron on the Woods where the Kubota appear to be flat steel with bent edges. The rated forces of the 80x are much higher than the 75a. The bucket is a heavy duty contruction grade bucket with well placed re-enforcing steel.

Now that is not to say that the 75a is a poor unit, it definitly fits the tractor very nicely and keeps the over all length of the tractor shorter than with the Woods. It does fall into the required specs for the tractor and has very reputable digging capacity. Its reach height for craning is higher than the Woods. And the over all pricing I found to be cheaper than Woods.

Over all from my perspective the woods is a much stronger unit.

Question on GEAR L2800... is the gear model actually a "shuttle shift"?

I can save $1,000 off the HSt if I go with a gear model, but I was told by the salesman, that the gear model did not have shuttle shift! I drove a MF 1532 today with shuttle shift, and I think, for my needs, I could get by without HST. I will be using it mainly for FEL work, but not on a time or $$$ schedule, so the shuttle shift may work for me.... but I need to know if the L2800 gear is actually shuttle shift.... :O

Or not...

For me, it came down the the center PTO. I wanted a belly finish mower and that was not possible with an "L"

As for the B7800 vanishing? Yes..this started happening over a year ago and the B7800's replacement is already out there for sale, you know it as the B3030.

B3030 is basically a B7800 with quarter-inching and newer body style and few other 'improvements'. Same HP pretty much tho.

When I bought my 7800, I was setting on the 3030 in the showroom when the dealer approached me.

He had one 7800 remaining and it was configured almost exactly the way I wanted. (Turfs, 72 inch finish mower) and it was a cool 2000 less than the 3030 configured the same way.

I have never been sorry I bought it, it does everything I ask of it and more and it looks like a giant when setting next to my neighbors BX24 so I am very happy! :p

Carl, my understanding of the L2800 is that it does NOT have shuttle shift in any strict definition of the term. In other words, it CANNOT be shifted from forward to reverse (or vice versa) while on the roll.

What it does have is a conveniently arranged range-shift transmission that includes reverse as a separate range positioned directly opposite Low range in the shift pattern. However, you must bring the tractor to a stop before switching between Low range to Reverse via the range-shifter. Failure to do so can damage the range transmission.

This is how MX5000's 8x4 transmission is set up and I believe the 8x4 gear version of all the current L-series tractors is the same...someone should speak up, if not.

I find the MX's transmission quite convenient to use for the limited loader work I do; much better than the 8x2 used on my older L4300. If you're planning LOTS of loader work, you'd probably be better off with an HST or something with a true shuttle shift. If it's an occasional thing and you're not working under pressure, the gear L2800's 8x4 should do fine.

Bob, thanks for that info. I was looking at the liturature for the new L2800/3400/4400, and it has this statement: "For easier front-loader operation, the mechanical shuttle shift has a forward/reverse in the low and reverse ranges."

Could this be new for 2008 on the new "Xtra Power" models? The salesman told me it was not shuttle shift, but the liturature he handed me seems to contradict his statement. I don't know what to think.

I will be using the FEL a lot, but I am not on a schedule or doing it for money, so I could save the $1K on HST and get buy on gears, but I would like a shuttle shift if that is what is offered. I have no problem using a clutch. My Chevy K2500HD is a 5 speed manual and I love that truck! :)

I really want to get the decission nailed down soon. I am weary from all the research. :O

Save yourself all of the trouble and get the HST. You will be glad you did. $1000 over the life of a 0% loan is mimimal and you will be happier with the HST.

Well, I went ahead and got the L2800 HST w/FEL.

I looked at MF and JD. MF was too high and din't seem like they were interested in dealing and only had a gear tractor at above Kubota HST prices. JD acted like they would deal, but they were a bit too busy to work with me. I felt like a little fish in their big pond.

I got a Kioti dealer to match the Kubota price on a CX35hst (I believe that was the model number), but it was just too far to drive to make the deal. I understand the Kioti may have a few more nice-to-have features, but I just didn't have the time to drive that far. I also know the Kubota I already have is very dependable and I feel comfortable going with Kubota, so I do not feel bad if I could have possibly gotten a bit more for the same money.

I actually went with a different Kubota dealer than my BX. The dealer that sold me the BX didn't seem interested in my business this time. Salesman was not the same one and he just acted like he was too busy for my business. Went to the dealer that is actually closer to me (that didn't care to deal on the BX) and he gave me the best price of all the brands I considered. So he got my business. Also seemed friendlier this time around. This was actually the first place I looked and the first quote I received.

So I have to go back on Monday with my trailer to pick it up. Could have gotten it today, but the wife already had my day planned.

I already have work waiting for the new Kubota and I am ready to give it a try. If it is anything like the little BX1500, it will be wonderfull!

:) :) :) :)
