I'm up to 16 hours on the new 7800. I love this thing. I started Sat by using the Box Scraper on the driveway. We have a long stone drive with a big hump in the middle, tire ruts up the sides - not anymore.
Newbie lessons learned:
1. add weight to the BS

All day Sun with the 60" hog opening a long path that runs by the river. Holy crap - I can't believe that some of you lucky Joe's get paid to do this - Bush hogging has got to be the most fun you can have on a tractor (wife won't get on it).
Newbie lessons learned:
1. when you open the lower 2 points on your 3 point to attach a box scraper (turnbuckles), close them back up for the hog or it will swing a lot. The swinging will cause scalping, and if you are on an off-camber, scare the crap out of you when all 600lbs. of hog swings to the down hill side!!
2. There are holes in your meadow that you can not see - these will scare the crap out of you also
3. A Motorola IC580 will not survive being run over by a 7800
4. If the tractor can run it over - the hog will chew it up
5. When you go into the shed for the grease gun - the wasps that just built a nest there will chase and sting you
6. WD40 kills wasps if that's all you have
7. A 7800 will not fit in my garden shed with the ROPS up - loud noise - scared again
8. always have more fuel than you think, so you can bush hog more, because it so much fun.

I hope everyone else had productive weekends.

That hogging gets old after a few times.

5 tractors on mowing crew have logged over 5400 hours so far this year. (as of last friday)

I've been in the seat for just over 500 of 'em.

It started getting old around 10 hours into the season.

OK, ok - I was asking for that, I'm sure it will get old after a while.
But remember - the changes that I'm making are to my property and not for hire, so that helps.:)

The lessons learned made me laugh. I love posts like this.

BTW, ORA, I'm also still in the "everything I do on the tractor is fun" phase. I hope it doesn't wear off too soon.

Welcome and enjoy your new tractor. I grew up on a tractor but when its your own it makes a difference. Even though some tasks get old I am always amazed at what they can do and get excited when using it at times. Don't get to tired and operate it. Bad things WILL happen if you do.

I'm 61. I grew up on a farm. By age 9 I was expected to plow, bale hay, ect, just like a grown-up. I farmed myself for 37 years. After I "retired" from farming, we started a mowing business. Long story short, I've spent THOUSANDS of hours on a tractor.

And I STILL enjoy MOST of the seat time I get.

Some people don't understand. I don't try to explain it to them any longer. I just go climb on the tractor and enter my own little world.

I'm 34, I have a friend with pretty much the same resume as you and @ age 67 he can lift me off the ground with his hand shake. He's broken so many ribs that it doesn't bother him any more - he'll keep working!
I admire guys like you that work that hard. My job keeps me in front of a computer all day producing audio and video for TV commercials - so seat time is all the more valuable for me.

I'm already day dreaming about next weekend.
