Regarding the bucket measurement. . . .I marked my bucket exactly 8" back with a grease pencil then CAREFULLY measured the distance across several times to be absolutely certain I had the right measurement. My toothbar fits so well that it seems like it was built onto the bucket during initial construction! The toothbar is the best bang for the buck you can spend on your tractor if equipped with a loader!

Hey, she's getting all the advice she paid for and we want to make sure she gets her money's worth.

Regarding measurements for the toothbar. When I ordered my Markham I followed all the advice and spent time getting the measurement right to the quarter inch. On installing it however I realized that it is really just important to make sure you are at least a 1/4 inch or so narrower than the bucket opening in front as otherwise you can easily bend the attachment tabs to fit. You don't really need to bend them at all just let the bolting do it when you tighten up. I would guess that so long as you are narrower than the bucket opening width being up to an inch or more off in measurement would not matter.

JDeerkid - If your doing it by yourself, I would use a memory stick (think that's the name). Basically you take two small sticks (1x1 or 1x2) and then you make sure each will fit inside the bucket. Place them side by side, push the end out till they stop. Place a mark across both sticks, pull them out, realign the marks then then measure the length. This may be over kill, but it's easy to do with just one person and it makes for an accurate measurement.

I did something similar by measuring from 0 to 24" or whatever, and marking the 24" point on the bucket. Then I turned the tape around and did the same thing until I got the measurement for the 24" mark I made. I then added them up and subtracted the distance Markham recommends. I then double checked my number with the tape going from bucket wall to bucket wall factoring in the tape's case, and I came up with the same measurement.

That's why I put hardened washers between the toothbar tabs and the bucket. I found that two 1/2" SAE washers per side was just right.

There is a really good thread with pictures on installation. I am not sure who it was but it also seems that this gentleman drilled the holes at the front of the mount so when he did not need the teeth he could loosen and fold the bar back in the bucket. Maybe some one remembers the thread and can post a link to it. The thread was started by 3RRL.

I did this as well with my toothbar. I haven't had to fold it back yet; but I'm glad I can should I need too.

Interesting thread. That light weight grapple sure looks just like what I'm hoping to find. I have a 35hp tractor that I'm shopping around for a loader and a grapple to put on it.

The quick attach system has no interest to me, so being able to attach it to the loader with pins would be my only option. One idea that I haven't seen yet is to provide the pins, but allow me to weld them on where they would fit.

I have had quick attach systems on two tractors now. I like them but they are absolutely not critical for most CUT owners. If you are in a commercial operation and are changing implements multiple times a day then I'd say they are critical. For most of us however, to spend 15 minutes changing an implement via pins vs five minutes to change it via quick attach is just not a big deal. Additionally it saves the $500 plus for a QA adapter and also 100+lbs of lost lift capacity if you just stick with pins.

The rub however is getting attachments with pin systems that fit reliably. I don't understand why this is a big issue for other than garage based manufacturers these days. Anyone can contact the engineering dept of Kubota, JD, Kioti etc and get the precise dimensions necessary. By knowing the geometry of that loader's standard bucket you could easily figure out how to mount the pins to a generic grapple or other FEL implement. If those measurements are added to a CAD drawing and that serves as the basis for cutting/welding, then why are some manufacturers having difficulty offering reliable template based custom pin mounts? It should be a trivial exercise for a modern production shop.

I would caution that if you decide to weld pins yourself that you do need to be careful that you don't inadvertently limit the dump or curl angle achievable with your loader.

The way things are going, I think that I'm going to make a small change to the list. Just one number is jumping out at me.

It's the number 8. I really think it should have been a 9, like in 2009!!!!

Okay boys,
for all who is interested , I think we just about have the LD grapple figured out, we did some CAD today and plan on cutting tomorrow! Assembly shall begin!

How is the assembly going? I am interested in what you come up with, and would be interested in purchasing a Millionzi type grapple with universal quick attach for my New Holland T2220.
