I think CCW means carry conceiled weapon, right? If not, that's what I'm referring to.

Question for you guys who have them...

You are carrying and do some errands.... you happen to walk into the post office or alcohol store or Walmart or your bank or.....

Are there some places you can't go while carrying and if so, what exactly do you do when you find yourself in a position of not thinking ahead and you've got your gun with you and need to go to a location?

Do you sit outside while the wife goes in? What if she's not with you, do you put it off or do you leave your gun in car while you go inside?

I'm not trying to be too nosey.... I've just wondered about a few circumstances where carrying a gun might put someone into a funky situation of conflicted welcome.

Surely someone has found themselves at least once in their life in a situation where you think..."Dang.... I need to go to such & such place, but I've got my gun with me and can't take it in there"

?

With my job I sometimes end up going places where hand guns are frowned upon such as court houses etc. If I know that is where I will be I do not carry that day. I know some people who leave their gun in car but I don't feel comfortable doing that.

Concealed is concealed, take it for what it's worth. Better to be judged by 12 then carried by six.

It wold really depend on the state laws where you are.

In Kentucky, Banks, Schools, courthouses, and Bars are off limits. Everyplace else is OK. The establishmen t may post a "no CCW" sign, but it means nothing. If the management asks you to leave because you are carrying then you must leave or be charged with trespassing. But concealed carry means concealed so no one should ever know anyway.

On the other hand, in Ohio, the same places as above are off limits, but if the establishment has a "no CCW" sign posted and you are discovered carrying you can be charged with a CCW violation.

When I'm out and about, if I have to run in somewhere where carry is prohibited, bank or courthouse mainly, I'll just stash my gun in the glove compartment till I'm done. I mostly ignore signs on doors to other places because again, concealed is concealed.

I try to avoid Ohio as much as possible because of their broken CCW law.

Interesting responses, pretty much what I figured they'd be (and also what I figured I'd do if I found myself in similar situation)

I don't have a gun nor CCW though, just daydreaming... :D

In Indiana about the only places off limits are Federal buildings, Schools k-12, correctional facilities, court houses. I think that about takes care of it. But on the otherhand I have caried in Federal buildings, school, and court houses. Nobody is supposed to carry in the correctional facility.

For the few times I can not carry into those places I just place it behind the seat out of view and lock up the vehicle.

I have a permit and it is easy to carry in most places as Virginia is pretty lenient. Heck we can open carry just as easy.

$50 fee (good for 5 years), court record search and you are approved. I think now you have to submit proof of a pistol safety course but if you are ex military this is waived.

I'll carry in Wally World but not a bank or similar places.

Don't forget airports, that's a no-no too.

I have had a CWP (CCW whatever) since age 21 and frequently carry the loaded gun in my truck and leave it there locked up right now while at work. Our state laws allow the gun to be locked and loaded out of sight in the vehicle. I have stood in line at banks with a gun as well since they are not off limits.

Bars, schools, courthouses, federal buildings, air ports, and any private property that specifies that no guns are allowed. Not certain on that last one but I respect the owner's wishes.

I've always got my truck nearby so that's where I stash the handgun when I don't want it concealed on my hip.

ETA: Best idea is visit a gun show that also conducts CCW classes and ask your question. They will be able to direct you accordingly.

You CCW class usually (read should) cover this in great detail. Otherwise you can get some answers at Department of Safety Internet - Handgun Carry Permit Issuance
Beyond that there are internet sites but that info there can be outdated. Best solution is to call the TN DOS and ask about it. Some states have it in print others dont. Theres also a federal set of laws...basically dont go into any fed building armed. That includes the PO, court houses, govt offices etc.
