I have an 07 XUV Diesel that makes a noise as described. At first I thought it was just the engine. Coming from the clutch area. I didn't recall it being there when new. Notice it most at idle or low RPMs and goes away as you raise RPMs and speed. Almost sounds like a bunch of steel balls loose inside the clutch cover.

I mentioned it to dealer while under warranty. They talked to Deere and said there were no reports of any issues. There were going to come out and look at it. Time went by and so did the warranty.

Be interested if you come up with anything.

I am going to take it apart this weekend. Just to see. It might be normal... It might not.

Some of the noise i was getting was from a loose linkage and the parking brake. i added an extra washer to each, and it quited down drastically. I just have the little clutch noise. We will see.

does the noise stay the same when at a constant speed and does it go away when you accelerate? if so thats normal my hpx has been doing that sinse new. or is the noise there when accelerating and cruiseing ? my hpx has a clatter that comes from the clutch when i am at a costant cruising speed or slowing down but when i'm speeding up it goes away or if i'm pulling a load it goes away but if i'm running light it's there . it's been there for years it's normal. when the guy took me for a test drive in mine he told me it was all normal and 5 years later i haven't had any problems with it so for so i guess it is normal.

My noise could also be described as a clatter from clutch area. I notice it at idle and while moving but not under load or higher speeds. My first assumption was to put the diesel engine as the suspect but I was able to isolate it the clutch. I had just accepted the noise as normal clutch operation although its absence would be well received. : )

yes when running at a very high speed i don't have it but at idol i don't have it at all maybe the idol speeds might be diferent on the gas to a deisel. i realy had forgot all about the noise until i was folowing behind my gator a while back with my rhino and i heard it and i remembered about it. but it's normal.but for me i always have something intow i really don't hear it anymore plus i'm so used to it to me it's just how my baby sounds . maybe if one day i took of and the sound wasn't there i would think something broke.

Yeah, the sound is most apparent as a kind of clang, clang, clang... and sort of sounds link the thin metal of the drive clutch rubbing or touching something. it does go away under acceleration, but it there at different speeds. I figured it was normal, but when buying used at a steal, i have been working to make sure everything is perfect. i am still going to take it apart to see whats going on for a little more understanding.

I attached a pic of the clutch from Deere online parts page for XUV. Be interesting if you find anything loose in there.

LOL.. Tommy, this is not my first BBQ. I have mine narrowed down, and hope to have a fix for it today. Its not complicated. I was getting very little noise from the driven clutch. That was solved with some dry lube on the ears and a little cleaning.

The drive clutch is where I get some of the rattles. After taking it apart, I can see why these units last forever. BUT, the tolerances are not tight, so you get some rattling... I will put a few hours on it today and see.
