New guy here and looking for my first tractor

I went and looked at tractors again today and I have fell in love with the B series. I drove a 2920 w/364 loader. I played around a bit. I was so tempted to take one home, but I resisted.

Questions:

1. does the 3 point hitch have to be removed for the addition of the backhoe? If so is that quick and easy.

2. I hear a lot about the lack of a position control. It seemed to me that it could be raised and lowered smoothly an not just in 1/4 increments??

3. Will you buy my bike so I can get a tractor?

1. 3pt arms and lifting arms have to come off to put BH on. It is quick and easy.

2. I thought I would be dissapointed going from position control to 1/4 inching. My B7200 has position control. It is easy to control 3pt attachments with the 1/4 inching. The manual actually calls it slow and fast raise. The only issue I have heard of would be trying to lower an attachment to the same position repeatedly. Like a brush cutter, maybe post hole digger. All things said, so far I have not found it to be a problem using the 1/4 inching vs. the postion control. I wouldn't let position control be the deciding factor on what tractor to get.

3. Can't buy your bike. Want to buy a B7200 and an IH 3616?

Thanks for the response. To clear up about the 1/4 inching, I was not saying I did not like it, instead I could not really see what the fuss was about vs. the position control. I suppose it's probably like you said, the repeated lowering to the same spot.

I see in your profile you have the 2620 and the FEL & BH. Do you have any regrets in not getting the 2920?

Do you have any regrets in not getting the 2920?

For my situation I could not see paying the extra $1000 to $1500 extra for the B2920 to get 3 more HP, if I remember what the extra cost was. I went from a 17 hp B7200 to the 26hp B2620. I was able to do everything I do with the B7200 with only 17hp so I couldn't see going anymore than the 26hp of the 2620. I understand some people could use the little extra HP of the 2920, but I don't really do anything that heavy or I just go a little slower. I went with the 2620 because I wanted a heavier tractor with the higher ground clearance, yet small enough to still mow with. It can do everything the 7200 could, but do it easier(see my profile for all the attachments I use). It was also as much as I could justify $. Really it's hard to justify the cost of these things these days. The biggest diff I notice is that it simply just pulls itself around alot easier no matter what I am doing. Which in my opinion means, less load/stress = longer life. I am able to run the engine at lower rpms and still have plenty of power. Use it don't abuse it! I plan on keeping it a long time.

TRUST, i'll recommend the 2620. Spend the extra grand you saved by not getting the 2920 on a nice impliment for your new tractor. You will only miss the extra couple ponies if you use the tractor with something that really sucks up PTO horsepower (like maybe chipping long, large brush in a chipper). DO spend the money up front on a backhoe....... you have loads of things to do around the house with a backhoe, you just don't know it yet. The position control vs. quarter inching arguement has been beaten to death here........ just do a search on it. Though i'd always prefer position control, i wouldn't let Q.I. stop me from buying a great compact like the 2X20 tractors. You, as a home owner using it arund the house will never see that big of a difference. I'm with your wife (figuratively), keep the bike........ buy the tractor. You only go through this thing called life once (as far as i can see).

The bike has sold

Now help me sort out exactly how I want to configure this new machine. I'm pretty sure on the 2620 and 365 FEL. ( I must admit that I do have some reservation that this may be a bit on the small side, not sure) Up in the air are the BH 65 w/mechanical thumb, a PTO chipper, ballast box vs. fluid tires, toothbar.

I plan to put the 15% down and use the 48/zero financing. So I don't know what implements you can add and still use the financing. I'm assuming that it would only be good for Kubota equipment.

I'm not a big fan of the fluid tires and would prefer the ballast box, unless I get the BH. At least that way I can lighten the load for trasportation. Plus if you have a flat it sure makes a mess and it corrodes the wheels. But if you would like to convince me otherwise feel free.

If you are not going to be mowing with the tractor and think the 2620 may be too small, you might want to look at the L series. Maybe L2800 or something, plus you can put a bigger BH on them if you go that route. The reason I went with the 2620 was I planned on a MMM. The only thing I wish was that I had more reach and power with my BH, of course these take a bigger tractor. If I was not using my tractor to mow with I would have really tried to get an L3400 with FEL and BH. It is a much heavier tractor than the B's and that equates to being able to do alot more work, loader, BH, and ground engaging.

Honestly, I would like to stay under $20k. Even with the 2620 that will be tough, but really close if I get the BH. I considered the B3030 and the B7800, but again it will surely bust $20k. As fare as physical size is concerned the 2620 is exactly what I'm interested in for storing purposes. I'm sure the L's would be way outta my range. I don't really want to go over $400/month. I got some firm pricing today and it looks like I will either have to forgo the BH or the Chipper, to stay in range. Can't decide which I would rather do without, I feel like I could use both right away.
