Why Do Modern Loaders Have Their Lift Cylinders Upside Down?

What doesn't matter the loader will lift faster if the piston is inverted,did you check the speeds,it's math plain and simple if no one gets,it so be it,the question has no answer, loader companies changed the position because it looks nice or a change is as good as THE rest.

Ok, so assuming my new home built loader is more or less a permanent attachment, which way would you place the cylinders (rod up or rod down)?

BTW why would I want to remove the loader? I don't have anything else that attaches to the front.

Paul. CHill out. You are arguing the wrong point. The fill times don't change when you turn it up side down or not. The time to extend the ram will be the same. Note the words, extend the ram.

The ram will be extending when lifting the loader it will not make any difference what way it is fitted, some reasons for fitting upside down are, ease of plumbing, appearence
and to keep water dirt etc away from the seal.
Most of this has been said before, I was to interesed in the discussion about cylinder speed to take much notice of anything else.

Enough ,call one of the loader suppliers they will tell you,maybe they can speak NUT HATCH .

could you then explain how the cylinder fill time is different ?

I've added a page from baum hydraulics web site that calculates the extend and retract times and speeds. There is no change in the extend speed or time when you turn one upside down. None. That's a fact as far as I and many other people understand it. If we have it wrong, please let us know what is actually going on.

Ok, the thing doesn't paste well. Go to www.baumhydraulics.com and then go to the "spec Calculators" and hydraulic calculator #3. I put in my tractor data. 18 gpm, 2.5" cylinder with 1.5" rod. Extend time is 2.6 sec and retractr time is 1.6 sec. It makes ZERO difference how it's mounted, the extend and retract time will be the same.

You would have to design a loader that lifted by RETRACTING the cylinder to make it raise faster.

To design a loader that raises faster you could increase the flow from the pump, or, you could set up a regeneration circuit in the system that takes fluid from the rod end and mixes it into the base end. Thats the way they do it in some manlifts and derricks.
I think they mount them the way the do simply for packaging ease and economy. Also it looks purtey....
