Thinking more glow plug time will help...IMHO.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Been gone all weekend. After reading some your responses I wnet to the garage to start it. Held the glow plugs for 45 seconds, still wouldn't fire at minimum idle. I think the battery suggestion may have some merit, I've still got the original battery and it's going on 7 years old.

It turns over just fine. I can advance the throttle just a little, hold the glow plugs for 2-3 seconds, and it fies right up.

save your money on the battery.

It won't hurt to check the voltage on the battery. Obviously you shouldn't replace the battery unless you need to but just checking it won't hurt and you may find that's your problem. At 7 years old it's certainly a good possibility that your battery doesn't have the same oomph that it used to.

Check your voltage and let us know what it is.

Manual for my 1800 said the valves needed adjusting at 1000 hours. I didn't do that so I suspected my starting challenges at 1100 hours may have been related. Perhaps some of the more mechanically priveliged here can comment if this could be a factor.

What type of starting problems were you having @ 1100 hours.

Nothing really serious. Just the little rascal didn't start up on the first spin more often than it had in the past. I seemed to need a little more glow plug than in the past.
