Low Sulfur Diesel, lubrication issues

I give up.

The test cited is the most thorough test anyone has done that isn't biased by a manufacturers input.
If anyone does better I'd like to see it, until then.......

but publish something like this on a non-peer reviewed web page and people think it is the holy grail
We're peers, aren't we? :)

BTW - Does anyone have any thoughts on my questions?
Currently, we're running 500 PPM Off-Road diesel in our pre-'07 backhoe/CUT's/Gator, etc... Do I need one of those additives, or only if/when running ULSD.

How about in our pre-'07 on road trucks, which ARE using ULSD?

Well I definitely feel the need for some snake oil.
98 Cummins 24V, Bosch VP44 injector pump. 200K miles prior to USDL with no issues. At 215K replaced the first injector pump and now at 238K ready to replace another. :(

Note: The standard requires the lubricity to be corrected by the supplier, however, this typically isn't at the refinery but the local or regional distributor. I've always been curious if some distributors haven't been short sheeting the bed here;)

Even if they are completely honest, what kind of controls do they have in place to make sure the right amount of the right stuff gets added and mixed properly? The refineries are likely to have complex control and testing systems in place to make sure their products meet the standards. I find it hard to believe that distributors would be set up to do likewise.

I have yet to see this point addressed by a knowledgeable and reputable entity. If anyone knows of such a write-up, please post a link.

"I give up"

Glad to hear it. Nobody stated anything about optimum mixtures, perfection, operational plateaus, etc. The study that you care so little about compared the label rate of many additives and a known concentration of cheap 2 cycle oil with the response being lubricity and tested by a 3rd party facility. No urban mythos involved. Well, there is one myth. That the ULSD fuel does not need any additive.

Just remember that you are free to add or not add anything your little heart desires.

What I don't get is how $9 a gallon for anything that goes into the tank is cheap.

For what it's worth, I add a little Marvel Oil to my tractor diesel when I refuel it.

Sorry I have been away for about a week as I have a life. I am glad to see that people are so passionate about their diesel fuel additives. And I am so honored that I have the great John Bud's blessing to add anything that my little heart desires. I don't think I will ever reach 5000 posts, I have better things to do.

Butters, insulting people on this board does not add any value to this thread and does not prove that you have any scientific clout either.

The test was meant for those who are interested, to question the lubricity of the current fuel and common additives. It does not definitively prove anything else since there are too many assumptions involved. But it certainly proves there could be a problem. And that the current selection of common additives may not be as competent as the user may believe.
