I believe the price of gas will keep dropping for the next few months but I don't think diesel will drop very much more for a while because some of the refineries are shutting down diesel production now to start making fuel oil for the winter. However, we should still see a mild drop in diesel prices.

*This don't make sense around here since fuel oil and diesel are one and the same.
How do you quit making what you are already making in order to make more of what you're already making that you quit making?

The diesel they are making now is ultra low sulfur and the fuel oil is low sulfur.

Regular unleaded gas in Toronto is 79.5 cents per litre this morning. The first time in 6 years it is below 80 cents. Diesel? 98.9 is the best I've seen it.

Wow! I guess we can't complain that you Canadians are selling us the high-priced stuff. It seems you are keeping that for yourselves.;)

I paid $1.829 yesterday in Bowie, Tx at Murphy/Walmart. It dropped 4 cents overnight from Monday. My little Pontiac Vibe only took 6.8 gallons to fill up, $12.44. Suddenly, gas is cheaper than a meal for two at a restaurant.:)

*I 'm not sure about this.
I believe they are gradually getting away from low sulfur by switching over to everything being ultra low sulfur.
Makes sense to me less storage cost due to only needing one storage system rather than 2 systems.
What you state may have been quite true 2 or three years ago.
I figure they quit producing the low sulfer back about then and probaly have by now just about depleated what supply of it they had then .
My take is the low sulfur stuff is or will be fast disseparing and will be diffucult it not impossable to obtainne before to long.
I do know You can't get both here.
I can only buy one fuel and it's used for Heating homes and running Diesel engines be it low sulfur or ultra low sulfur.

...
Gas was 2.20ish. Figure in a week or two the price will drop below $2 a gallon.
..

I was right and I was wrong.

Drove home yesterday and diesel had dropped another dime to $2.79. That is twenty cents in less than a week.

Gas was 1.99 a gallon. :D

Later,
Dan

It is quite correct that some refineries are only making ultra low sulfur diesel now instead of both kinds. It saves on storage space and only costs 1 or 2 cents a gallon more to produce. But there are still many refineries in our area making low sulfur diesel and I suspect that in years to come they will quit this practice.

*I think that's the trend.
Spend 2 Cents more a gallon to make ultra low sulfur and save 5 cents a gallon on storage .
Makes sense to me!
