Best Home Defense Rifle?

You guys saying the oncoming criminal element will be " Fast Draw Type " or maybe they evolve and think "long range ambush" or will they just go with the more is better when faced by one well armed fellow?

One must be prepared for all eventualities.

I knew someone who I thought might actually try to "long range ambush" me, , on my land. Thankfully the nutter has moved far far away.

Is the concealed carry in congruence with a quick draw?

It most certainly can be. I know people who can draw and fire 2 rounds hitting center of mass in under 2 seconds. Some can do it faster. Concealed or unconcealed does not matter.

What type weapon is best suited to the quick draw scenario?

Any handgun will do. A properly slung and carried rifle or shotgun can be quick drawed as well if one knows how.

Have you got that weapon in position?

Ditto that. last time i was at the range.. I could do draw and 1 shot in 1 second.. 2nd second picked up a couple more shots... of course.. someone running at you with a knife can cover lotsa ground in 1-2 seconds as well!

There are some scary people in the world , no wonder they want too take your guns away . The Dirty Harry talk from a couple of you and the fact that some of you would KILL someone because they took your lawnmower is doing nothing for your cause . I think i would be more scared of what one of you may do with your gun if i cut you off at the lights , more so than the 1000-1 chance a mugger wanted my wallet . Soundguy , i'd like to meet you one day and see if you'd still talk down too me without your computor .

Ever hear of the FBI's 21' rule? Basically, an agile man within 21' of you can cover the ground and get to you before you can unholster and fire accurately. Unless you are exceptional at handling a weapon. It is a lot different doing it at the range than with a lunatic bearing down on you.

I think a lot of this is a moot point. The absolute first rule of self defense is avoidance. Don't put yourself in the situation in the first place. Your home should have an early warning device of some kind, an alarm, a dog, whatever. If he perpetrator is outside my home, let the police deal with it. I've got multiple black belts and ugly black weapons too. I can defend myself better than 99% of the population. But, I'm not going out there. I don't know what he's carrying or how many of them there are. People also shouldn't carry unless they are ready, willing, and able to use it. Little old ladies probably shouldn't carry unless they have the ability and willingness to use their weapon. Most cases like this, the weapon gets used against them. You get stabbed in a bar at 1 am? Well you disabled your thought pattern with a drug in a place where everyone else did too. What did you expect to happen? Yes, sometimes it can't be avoided and you can't foresee every situation, but most of these encounters could easily be avoided with a little common sense.

Give peace a chance? Please. It's been tried the world over and failed everytime. Martial arts were developed by the most peace loving people the world has ever seen, Buddhist monks. Why? Because they gave peace a chance and it failed. Now if you can get a monk to fight, there's a problem. The only time in history when there has been peace is when your enemy knew you could kick his butt all over the planet.

Of course, this is all just my humble opinion.

Yes, there are some scary people in the world...that's why I choose to be armed.

I respect the fact that our opinions differ, hey that's what makes the world go 'round. I realize that a liberal is just a conservative that hasn't had a horrible experience yet where a firearm could have precluded the entire episode, maybe even saved the life of a friend or loved one. I'm not saying that's what happened to me...my personality, my military background won't allow me to become a sheep. It's that understanding which makes me more tolerant of the other side's view. I've been to 32 countries, some I spent a lot of time in. I got to know the culture, laws and customs of many of those countries well. Most I really liked, some not so much. It always made me extremely grateful when I returned back to the U.S.A.

Maybe I missed something. I don't remember reading in this thread that anyone would kill someone for trying to steal a lawnmower! Hold them at gunpoint until the authorities arrived, for sure, but not kill them. None of my property is worth going to prison for and missing the life of my infant daughter. Defending the life of one of my family is, if need be.

Let me reiterate, I am a peace-loving individual, who doesn't want ANY friction from anyone. Nobody prays for peace and harmony more than a Soldier, Sailor, Airman or Marine. In the same spirit, I don't start trouble or bother anyone. I am good to my family, my friends, my neighbors and society as a whole. I help little ole ladies cross the street, but I have no qualms about defending my family and loved ones to the death if need be. If that instinct isn't in you and you wouldn't do that, I feel really sorry for those who look to you as a leader of your family, father or protector!

When i'm being monstered by loudmouths in a pub , i always put the biggest on their backs first as they are just noise and no guts . It seems to settle the others down . Loudmouths who talk down too others seem to be common place worldwide .

I have a .22 Magnum and an over and under 12g at home for pest control . If i or my family was attacked i would use them . But in the event that i did'nt have time to get them out i would have no trouble defending my family with my hands , to the death if need be . So save your implications of cowardice . If you spent as much time lobbying your government to disarm the crooks as you do lobbying for guns for all , it would be a better world for all of us . Ever heard of Nuclear disarmament ? Even the big guys know that everyone having nukes does not make it a safer world .

Yeah, I used to frequent the bars and such...avoid them these days. Got better things to do and could do without the friction. I'll have a "pint" or two, but it's in my home, out on the back deck or at a restaraunt...big difference.

I'm not going to argue with you about the disarming the crooks statement. You can't in your country and you are chocked to the gills with anti-gun legislation...so it's a moot point to discuss us doing it over here. Also, we don't have to lobby for "guns for all". Brave men did that for Americans a few hundred years ago, several years after kicking the Brit's butts. Since then it's not a lobby situation...it's guaranteed.
