This is a picture from the For Sale magazine of the F717 Volvo fire truck i bought to make another water truck out of . It was a dual cab truck with seating for 6 men . I cut the rear section of the cab off and removed the back cab panel and re-attached it to the front half , which makes it a two seater . I then had to build an all new exhaust gantry and rear cab mounts and shorten the wheelbase . Ive just finished the Galvanised water tank support frame and Gal mudgaurds . I shortened up a Kenworth 104 Fibreglass sunvisor and fitted it to the cab , also a Scania windscreen stoneguard and Nissan UD bumper bar to make the truck look a little more modern . It has 74,000 kilometres (46,000 miles)on the clock and still has the original drive tyres fitted . Even though it is an old truck , (1984) it will do a good job as a water truck . I got it registered yesterday , it took around 4 weeks to complete .

I had to look close it really sorta looks like a ford C600 pumper at first glance that I use to drive.

I do remember seeing one of those , yes they do look alike . This truck had a transfer case between the tailshafts that run the pump . They would throw an air switch to disconnect the drive to the wheels which would then run the pump . It only had a small tank that held the foam chemicals which were mixed with the re-pressurised hydrant water . It spent it's whole life in the Southport (Gold Coast) fire shed being pampered . The engine was never cold as it had a heating element in the radiator which was plugged into the mains so they could hop in and go flat out in the small hours without hurting it .

Thanks teg , comments like that mean a lot .

Thank you , and now that you ask:). (Also post 357 and on , in "Your towing rigs and trailers" there are a couple more)

This is my other truck that i built . The cabin was rusted out and needed a "little" work . After 6 days of hard work , i hung it from the roof of my shed . I then stupidly decided , instead of using an endless chain to lower it onto the chassis , because i was worried about the chain touching the fresh paint , i would use the loader and lift the chassis up to meet it . Just as i put the pins in the cab hinges , which made it all one part . I noticed with horror that the hydraulics on the loader where creeping down and were threatening to turn the cab and my shed into modern art . I had to then run around the truck and hop into the loader and lift the arms . Then at 100 mph get back out and try and untie the cab straps . But as i did the loader crept down again . This took place 4 times before i got the cab untied . The picture shows it after i untied it , you can imagine the cab and chassis 3' higher and attached too the shed and the hydraulics going down . It all worked out in the end , had a couple of beers that afternoon .

Thank you also Diamondpilot .
