I've seen several pictures where people pull in reverse, is there some advantage to do this. Anytime I've pulled with my truck I always pull using hitch.
No, I think the gears are designed to be stronger pulling forward. I guess they were wanting to watch it come out. You also want the weight on the rear tires, especially since the dually would have more traction that way.
If you are pulling going forward, you are powering the ring and pinion gears off the power side of the teeth, if pulling in reverse, you are powering off the coast side of the teeth, therby increasing the chances of damaging the gear set. That being said, typically there is a large enough margin of safety engineered into a factory driveline component that breakage from this type of usage in a stock configuration is a very remote occurrence.
