land is really out of control. We've been seeing farm land at 12-15,000 per acre for awhile. You see many more people renting land rather than buying.

Yup... scary economic times -- folk's are looking for "anything" that they think will be secure.

Saw on the news a night or two ago there were people lined up outside a bank to buy "T-bills"; Federal Treasury notes. It was newsworthy because the yield was 0%!!

But, people at least, had the "security" that they wouldn't lose their money and at least get back - what they put in...

I don't doubt some things are wrong, but I do think the constant harping by the news is blowing it up more than it needs to. This is a perfect example. The sky is not falling. GDP is down what... 3%? Yes, some people are struggling, but there are still many people who are doing well... if not better than past years. I'm getting sick of all the complaining about it, seems like all I hear around here.

I agree that our biggest enemy at this point is all the negative talking/news, it is in our face every day. Like the old saying goes, if you say something loud enough for long enough people will start to believe you.

Back to the original question on how dealers are doing...we have a store in Ocala, FL and within the past two months both the Kubota/Bobcat & New Holland/Mahindra dealer annouced they are shutting down. We are building a new facility there and it should be ready to move into the first of the year. So you have one success story and two failures in just one market.

Tough times have a way of weeding out the weak sisters. I'm in agreement that the situation is being over-blown. But, times are tough. There's two camps in this issue. Those who ARE making it. And those who AREN'T. In MOST cases, the one's who aren't surviving were on artificial life support in the first place. A lean, mean, well ran business can survive slow periods.

Well for the most part your correct about the two camps. I do feel for the companys that decided to expand do to the robust business only to have the bottom drop from under them and leave them over exposed.

I agree that constant focus on any issue can become nearly as burdensome as the problem itself... Harping about something is just as bad as whining; maybe a little less sniveling!

However, it's important to be willing to discuss problems even if it makes someone "uneasy or uncomfortable". Things are what they are - and trying to understand the real issues in order to avoid or correct them - makes alot more sense to me than reaching for the "rose colored glasses".

That said, I don't have a great deal of sympathy for "whiners"... However, I do have real compassion for folk's that are struggling but are willing to "tighten their belts" and "straighten their backs" and move forward.

There really are some deals out there on used machines. My neighbor just got a 60 hp kubota with loader 3 yrs old, 500 hrs, excellent condition for 55% of the best deal he could find on a new one. Kubotas used to resale pretty well but they seem to be tanking big time right now. It sure is a buyers market.
