Did I purchase the right trailer?

Wow. That's a lot of trailer.
Actually that trailer pulls much nicer than my old drop deck. Doesn't bang around empty and even though its 1500lbs heavier it doesn't feel any harder to pull either. At first it was a little intimidating but now I feel more comfortable with it than the old one. At least now the trailer doesn't look all strained with a load like the old one did.

Don't disagree wtih a single word. I said the exact same things when my wife first saw the (relatively) gigantic trailer behind my Expedition. And I LOVE the larger capacity (vs. a fully loaded lower capacity trailer).

Makes perfect sense. But WOW that looks like a whole load of trailer behind that van.

Just as a follow up, I would like to say the oversized trailer has been working out great. I wouldn't want to travel too far with a heavy load but taking it to our land has been a breeze. I have gotten better at rigging after some lessons from a pro. In hind sight I should have gotten the 2 foot dove tail to help reduce the weight of the two ramps. I am sure we will utilize its capacity after purchasing a capable truck.

Posts on TBN made me aware of the danger of the process of loading a trailer when a ramp fails or moves. Does your trailer have anything that locks your ramps in place when you are loading or are you planning to add something?

No, we have a channel that the ramp lays in but this is unreliable. It is a must to get proper placement of ramps, wheels of tractor and latch your safety belt when loading and unloading.

My trailer had a similar set up. I modified it like this. The tube holds the ramp in position to the trailer, but the weight is carried by the leg extension on the ramp.

Someone else may have a less invasive method to keep those rails in place.
