First of all they are lucky the crooks didn't wake them up to rob them as well or even cause bodily harm to them.
I'm sure they are now looking at getting an alarm system or a dog.
I'm glad they weren't hurt.

Or maybe the crooks are lucky they didn't wake them up, as it might have ended badly for them, with the homeowners having the home court advantage! I know they would definitely have a problem if they woke me up while they were inside my house. Heck, they would have a problem if they woke me up period, if they were trespassing on my property.

That is just plain ruthless!
I hope they find out who did it.
What part of IL ?

She lives in Arthur, right in the middle of Amish country.

I figure anyone willing to break in to your home knowing you are there is willing to harm you if you catch them in the act. It may be a good thing no one woke up.

I keep forgetting that there is no such thing as Mayberry anymore. You hear about these things in the big cities happening all the time, but now more and more it is happening in small sleepy little towns and rural areas as well. It is kinda sad but true.

There are some places down here in NC that have signs that read:

WE DON'T DIAL 911

Nothing much ever seems to happen to those folks.

GEB I hear ya on the German sheperd I have 4 White German Sheperds that stay inside at night. The biggest being 110 pounds. And theres also a loaded 12 gauge under the bed to.
I hate it about the presents, Takes a real slime ball to do that. MS has the Castle Law now that if you feel threatened on you own property you have the leagal right to blow someone away. Theres a jewelry store in Corinth that a man and his son live in the back and there was a man breaking in and he happened to be one of the folks that has done this alot even assaulting the residents. The old man gave the new law a test and subsequently cured the intruder from his habit. I cant understand why they let so many folks off with a slap on the wrist. I know 4 guys I went to high school with and every 2 or 3 months they get in the paperfor breaking and entering.

I wish there were more instances of burglars/home invaders being killed in the commission of their crimes.

I know if someone breaks into my home and doesn't leave immediately, it will not end well for them.

It is completely unfortunate that the homeowners did not wake up and take the crooks out. If America went back to being truly tough on crime, perhaps it would start going down. This includes allowing persons to shoot to protect property instead of just lives, and hanging car jackers/thieves.

Just a word to the wise.

As I have said on similar threads, it is not a good idea to post messages threatening intruders in a public forum.

If someone should ever happen to break into your home, the wrong post here could be misinterpreted as a premeditated plan.

Or, even worse, if a drunk comes "home" to the wrong house and there is an accident, a prosecutor could make a lot of hay from the wrong post here.

Well, seeing how the Great State of Michigan has it's version of the Castle Doctrine, and considering the fact that in this day and age people should feel as if their lives are in immediate danger from anyone breaking into/invading a residence, particularly "after hours" or knowing people are home, I don't see how such can hurt.

I'd find it quite a stretch to connect that with premeditation. That is having a plan. Sure, if it was a specific person you know you're going to whack, maybe that's premeditation. However, to plan ahead incase the worst happens, should never be construed as premeditation, and in most states likely wouldn't be.

Valid point, I suppose, however, depending on where one is from. If the state goes to such a ridiculous length as to search internet forums trying to connect an alias to a name, I guess they deserve whatever they can get.

I don't see how the drunk accidentally gets shot. He either goes away when told/warned, or advances towards you, in which case you've got no idea what his problem is, if he has a weapon, all you know is he's someplace he should not be, and at some point unless he chooses to leave, you may have to take action. That's a whole other thread though.

Too many folks here just get off be cause as the Sheriff says Oh that poor kid doesnt need any more problems than hes already got, or the classic Ive heard alot his folks dont need to go through that again. One of my friends in town had a 1 ton truck stolen from in front of his businees one night. He called the law and they caught the 22 year old passed out in it drunk. They didt even arrest him it was swept under the rug. My friend told them he wanted charges brought up but they claimed he wasnt driving and the keys were in it. Then he stole the counties short bus with the wheel chair lift from the bus depot. Tried to drive it across and abandoned rail crossing and got hung. The late freight to Memphis killed it. Cost the county tax payers 73 000 to replace the bus and lift. Then a week later he was caught breaking into the old shoe factory that a fire gutted and stole a bunch of copper., 2 days later a scrapyard that onl y servs businesses caught him on surveilance stealing frome the Cat reman pile taking pistons. Still the sheriff says he cant hold him. And about 10 days later he and a buddy stole a case of beer and 25 pounds of copper from a friends shop where he has a small ac recycling shop. Both boys were on house arrest 5 miles away but were caught red handed the law let them walk away after returning the copper and My friend got fined 250 dollars for having beer in a dry county.

Now this is just wrong, here is where the problem is, the county will not make any money on the 22yo kid stealing everybodys stuff but can make a buck on someone that can pay a fine that IMOP is a money making law.
