No Insurance ... Vehicle impounded

I wonder if this law is intended to get the illegals off the street.
If they could lose their car they may not come to Texas, that would be a good thing!

I'm in Texas. I have insurance.

I think that the state needs to do something about uninsured drivers. I don't know the statistics, but people without insurance are involved in allot of accidents. If they don't have insurance, they shouldn't be driving.
*It's not that expensive.
**If they can afford a cell phone, they can afford insurance. Just get rid of the cell phone if it's that difficult.

* Not true in my book Insurance is quite expensive.
I believe the very law that was created to assure insurance has resulted in just the opposite effect.
**I can't buy that.

1* put a plate on the front of those NC vehicles, too.

2*In NY the DMV and insurance companies communicate very well. If coverage lapses, the carrier notifies the DMV. DMV then serves notice that the plates must be surrendered, or new proof of insurance provided. If not, a State Trooper appears so the owner can surrender the plates from the comfort of his own home.
1*I hate this cause a rear plate is more than enough.
2*This sucks for 2 reasons.

Yea... Many years now... thats why I tell my wife and kids to have the vehicle towed to our property... Storage fees are like $50.00 a day for a wrecked car!

They should not be allowed to tow it any where else with out the owners permission.
Towing it anywhere else is a gimmick to collect storage fees.

I will however call the NC department of motor vehicles and request that all NC cars have license plates on the front AND back. Just don't hold it against me if it dosen't get done.
No don't call them and give them a bad idea.

Hmm- my 21 year old son's cell phone is about $30 a month, his liability only insurance is $300 a month in SC, for a 10 yr old Ranger pickup.
WOW, what are his limits? a few years when I was 21, single, driving a '89 Volvo 740 Wagon and "not previously insured" (I had been out of the country for ~2 years, as such I hadn't been on a auto insurance policy for a couple of years) it cost me $1200-1300/year for liability only with progressive (100k/300k/100k, 100k uninsured motorist) here in upstate NY.
when I got married and added my wife it got lowered, as it did when I switched to a '93 Volvo 940 Wagon and when I turn 25 it will probably go down more (I hope)

Here its $20 /day. If you get it fixed, we waive the fees. If its a total loss, the insurance co. pays towing and storage fees.

It's tough to get a shop to come out and estimate a job. Your best option is to have a shop to tow the vehicle to.

Blueriver here in NC you have always had to have proof of ins if stopped. If no proof then the vehicle would be towed to the next tow company that was on the list 's storage yard till proof of ins was obtained. I know in a lot of the country ins isn't required
1*but if someone runs into my truck I want some way of knowing the repairs will be paid for by the at fault party. 2*I think required proof of ins. is a good idea. Later, Nat
2* This does not guarantee 1* so is a bad idea.
