Specific gravity of granite is about 2.75, so about 175# / ft^3.
That rock looks to be about 1'x1.5'x7' = 10.5 ft^3.
10.5 x 2.75 = 1840#.

I think you are looking at the Jersey barrier photo. The rock was about 2x2x3.5=14ft^ x175= 2450lbs

The loader had no real difficulty picking up the rock. The grapple held tight and what was amazing to me was that only one of the top tines actually was in contact with the rock. I didn't know that until I saw how big it was and decided to take a photo. If you look closely at the photo you can see air between the rock and the non engaged tine. Grapple survived but did get a slight flare in the tip of the upper tine. I figure it is a proud war wound.

Yep, bought the grapple for my CK20 and just moved it to the new tractor. Millonzi 48 inch "Light Duty" . Cost me about $500 three years ago. Weight of the grapple per Millonzi was only 280 lbs but I have tried to push the thing around on the ground and I suspect it weighs more than that.

It works perfectly on the much more powerful KL401 loader (as seen in the photos) but was a great tool on my CK20 (avatar photo). A few encounters with rocks have given the upper tine tips a snaggletoothed look but it works just fine. Someday I'll heat those tips and get them back into position then reinforce them but otherwise the grapple is as solid as when I took delivery.

Correct. But also be careful not to focus only on mid bucket lift ratings when you are not always lifting mid bucket loads. I find pivot pin comparisons between loaders the most accurate comparitor even if in the real world lift capacity is 80% or so. Bucket sizes and weights differ and don't tell you much about what you can lift with a grapple or forks for example. We rarely know the exact weight of our loads so lift capacities are more useful for comparing loaders rather than calculating real world performance.

Also, the companies only publish lift to full height which is a relatively rare occurance if you are lifting a maximum heavy load. We really need to know how much you can lift to 2ft (traveling height) or some similar standard but those data are never available for CUT loaders.

Exactly, that's why I say, watch where they're rated, if you don't look at where they are rating the loader, the numbers can be confusing. In the heat of tractor shopping for a newbie, it's a detail that can be missed and a hungry salesman might not point out that little detail.
