From a price / value perspective it is really hard to beat the DK40SE with the 401 loader. That loader seems like a BEAST.

Yep. 2700lbs lift at pivot pins. You'd have to look at the LA1000+ to get comparable power in the Kubota line up. I haven't checked today but I think you need to get up into the almost 50hp size in Kubota L series to mount such a loader.

Odd thing is that it costs almost exactly what the Kioti KL351 loader on the DK35se does so the difference in price between the DK35se/KL351 and DK40se/KL401 is pretty small (and easily justified if you intend to do serious loader work).

I'd guess closer to 3000 than 600 and my guess is maybe a ton or so. Way more than 600 though. I don't think I could have lifted it to full height (not crazy enough to try either) and my lift capacity is over a ton. It definitely made the tractor very light in back even with a BH mounted. It's solid granite. I gently moved it about 50ft and put it down.

For what it's worth, I've had my new L3240
for a little over a month now. We've had so much rain that I haven't been able to use it as much as I would have liked, but I have put in several hours in the seat. I went with the shuttle shift, because most of my work will be tillage and I just prefer the gear drive. Can honestly say I'm pleased with the performance. Would suggest that if you go with the L3240, add the draft control option if you plan on doing any tillage work.

It actually irks me a bit that things like draft control and remotes don't come standard in the Grand L Kubotas like they do in the Kiotis. I haven't used draft control but it sounds like it could be very useful even for box blading.

I hear that in Canada the Grand Ls with a CAB come with two remotes. Thats a step in the right direction.

I have a rock by my pool that is just a little bit bigger than that one. It weighed in at 5133 lbs. I'd bet that rock is very close to 3000 lbs if it's granite. 600 lbs won't even come close. What I'm impressed by is how the grapple is holding it seemingly without strain at all.

I think that you are correct that it is well over 2000 pounds but I don't know how you can tell if a grapple is straining from a photo.

That's why I said "seemingly". Pretty impressive anyway you look at.

Specific gravity of granite is about 2.75, so about 175# / ft^3.
That rock looks to be about 1'x1.5'x7' = 10.5 ft^3.
10.5 x 2.75 = 1840#.
