Just how do you BUY AMERICAN?

Some years ago I read that Indian companies which offshore to China (because China is cheaper) are very very careful to ensure that the Chinese don't get enough design information for the piece they are doing to steal the design.

After all, the reason for offshoring is to save money, so obviously the offshore company can sell the product for less since they don't have to pay someone else's overhead and profit, only their own.

It's a well known fact that the Chinese, at last count, were being sued for over 50 billion dollars just by US companies alone for patent infringement.

I dare say that we make most of our weapons, and for good reasons. How would you feel if they were made overseas, and they, the other country decided they did not like you anymore. Seems like people buy what they want. Sure, we would all like to buy American, but try and find American made toys for your kids. We can claim most of our fresh food products are American.

Ah, but THEY ARE building weapons overseas!!! Some assemblies for military weapons are built overseas and then assembled into other domestic parts here in the US.

Remember not just a year ago the Airforce was about to buy Airbus refueling tankers instead of Boeing tankers. This was stopped at the last minute.

The problem is not osha/epa/unions/mim wage. It is we don't require those standards on imports. China can sell junk and poison made with no standards in deplorable conditions by slave labor that we can't. The government must enforce the same standards we require on ourselves, on our imports! It is deplorable we allow it.
And yes it is destroying the USA economy. US consumer debt is over 3 trillion and national debt is unfathomable. China and India are getting rich as they drain us.

What is the status of that refueling tanker business anyway? I was in lower Alabama when it was announced that Airbus won the contract, and there was much joy all around. Then Boeing cried foul and I haven't kept up with it since then.

The news I saw then (and this was in the Mobile area) was that the Airbus version was cheaper, had a longer range, could carry more fuel, and be ready quicker for delivery than Boeing. The contract would have created many jobs around Mobile - the downside being that the jobs were mostly final assembly/retrofitting jobs, not actual manufacturing of the plane.

And I would assume that it probably would have cost Boeing jobs as well.

Isn't Airbus a French company? It would be one thing if we (US-Boeing) were being beaten on price by the Chinese or Indians - but the French? What's our excuse for not being able to produce a superior air tanker at a lower cost than a European country with a comparable standard of living?

Just curious. Take care.

Nevermind - shouldn't have posted that. Did some quick research and came up with the usual stories of government corruption, intrigue and politics at its best. Appears there are different versions of the truth on each machine, depending on who is benefitted the most by the facts.

Sorry.

Once drove by a GM parking lot.

My unaudited observation was that more than 80% of employees drove imported cars.
(and employees get prices thay make you envious) Knew one that would buy and flip it every 6 months for profit.
Bet that in Japan they'd be looking for a new job.

How about 'helping those that are willing to help help themselves', where is loyalty, ethics and pride?, oh for sure you can argue freedom of choice but it now seems some will be able to argue that point in the bread line.

Then there are CEO's that are rewarded millions in bonusus for leading their firms intobankruptcy. (and sue to get their 'just reward')

Sorry i don't believe for 1 second that 80% of the employees drove imports.
Maybe in St Theresa, but not down in my end.
And my area is were the auto industry is.

and employees getting prices you would be envious of.....................That GM incentive stopped about 15 years ago. They get the A plan.

What is the A plan about 6 %

If you as me to get you a deal it would be the friends and family rate. which is about 4%

So in my book that is a 2% difference now that is something to be envious about:rolleyes:

I'm not sure where Airbus is in the deal but the company that won the bid is/was Northrop Grumman and the airplane, KC-45, was based on a A330 (Airbus).
