I have a 6x10 dump trailer made by car mate and it dumps at a good speed but when it lowers it takes for ever I checked fluid and it's good is there anything I can do to make it come down faster?I know it's about saftey but man is it ever slow.
Thanks

Hi Bjess8, I'm no expert on hydraulics, so I'll keep the advise short.. let it be. Probably a lot safer, and more reliable. Plus easier on the trailer.

There may be a reducer/orifice in the return line. There may also be an adjustment for the flow. Things you could do, open the orifice somewhat. remove the restrictor/orifice. Install an adjustable ball valve in line such as this.

Do you have the instructions for the pump that came with the trailer?

Dump trailers are gravity down and hydro power up. Look for a adjustment on the down side of things. You should have a flow control valve or orifices that can be changed.

My dump has an adjustable flow valve for return fluid. Guarantee it is slow only when empty. Lower it full and it will rocket down. I set mine for a happy medium between full and empty lowering.

Not all are gravity down. Besides my home built, the trailer I took several idea photos from was also pwr up/dn, I just can't remember if it was a BigTex or a C&M, it even had the same Monarch pump as I have.

OP, my big dump has a 18k scissor hoist and it is gravity down and it is slower than dirt comming down also.

Sorry about that. I have used and been around 4 or 5 dumps and even sold 1 or 2 and all were gravity down. I guess there are other types out there but really don't see why you would need pressure down?

Got to be a way of slowing it down unless you like to slam the trailer frame alot. I like mine to just meet the frame nice and soft.

The advantage of power down is during winter time if you are in the transfer you can dump and be out of the way fast where as the gravity down when it is 30 out takes forever to lower. That is really the only advantage to power down on a dump trailer that I know of. Because of our cold weather our next trailer will have power down just because we use it a lot and that time waiting adds up.

I don't get it, if its slow to go down just reach down for the little wheel and open up the return. Soooo simple. No power down needed. Why would a mfg put the extra expense of a 2 way pack when a simple adjustable relief is all that is needed.
