Its hard to get it out of your system. I love driving the F-150 when the weather is bad and we are going on a family trip but I always miss the F-350 for the fun of driving.

That plug spitting is pretty easy to fix. I've got a kit that puts a new threaded sleeve in there to fix it. So far I've fixed 12 or 13 of them. The tool looks like a wierd tap. It has small threads and larger threads. The small threads pull the tool in, then it starts cutting a bigger hold and finaly threads the bigger hole. You then use another tool to screw a threaded sleeve into the hole, install the spark plug and coil, and your done. Only thing that stinks is that cylinder is under the cowling and isn't fun to fix(my hands are claustrophobic):D.

I think you made a smart move. If you need a dumptruck, they really are complimented by a diesel. You rarely see a bigger dumptruck with a gas engine anymore. A DMAX will eat a V-10's lunch in probably every category except initial purchase price. Of course, diesel fuel costs more.

I'm curious what you probably would have to pay for that 550, but I'd bet you could get a real nice 26K diesel dumptruck for less. An over 26K air braked dump might cost even less.

I dont really need a dump per say it would be nice for salting/sanding though and for sure the Dmax will eat the V10 up in no time.

Wouldn't one think that opinions registered from a "Ford truck enthusiasts" website might be just a bit slanted in favor of Ford?

I would trust findings from a "consumer affairs" based forum over the opinions of a Ford truck enthusiasts forum.

I actually like the V-10, but it definately has a documented plug-spitting problem.

You're probably right...that would be like going to a tractor website and asking questions about different brands of tractors and expecting to get a straight answer....

The "plug spitting" problem was cured at least 3 years ago and is not an ongoing concern ....unless you want to make it one - which is apparently your mission.

Actually it wouldn't. Notice that the website in suspicion is a FORD enthusiasts website. This website, OTOH, is open to all tractor brands and lucky for us, has a few skeptics that are allowed to discuss the downside of things. If I logged onto a FORD enthusiasts site, I would realistically find a lot more glamourizing of Ford products than skepticism.

I think it's only fair to introduce a healthy dose of skepticism to anything, even the much heralded Ford V-10.

As the discuussion progressed, we of course got the usual dumping of compliments on the V-10 from the usual sources. I thought it would be objective to also point out well documented shortcomings as well from neutral consumer affairs groups. Is that fair to you?

Many people don't like to hear bad news, swines, but I think it's our duty as members of this website to point out the shortcomings. If we didn't, we would look like fools patting each other on the back telling each other "everything's perfect, no need for concern about anything".

I think some members of congress & senate did that right before the collapse of our country's financial system. Look where we are now.

No matter what truck brand you buy, I think that I can offer you some suggestions. I plowed snow & salted acres of parking lots for a long time. If I were looking for a truck for salting and needed to watch my budget, I'd consider a simple platform body on a DRW heavy truck. I'd mount a V-box spreader powered by a pony motor on the platform. You can get platform bodies made with wood decks, which are corrosive resistant. Even if you got a steel platform, it would be cheaper to replace later.

Salt in a steel dump body = big time corrosion.

I never knew about the plug issues on the Ford 5.4 and V10. I had a 5.4 and it was a good motor once I put the edge programing in it...

What gets me is that Ford has not fixed this issue over the years..... You would think it would be fixed by now...

3500DIESEL,

glad you didn't put yourself in something you probably would have regret later, that is a good looking truck, but for me when it comes to hauling i like a Diesel. that picture in your avatar is that your truck?
