Hi everyone

I have what I think may be a fuel clog issue. Is there a fuel shutoff under the tank on this model that could be off or clogged? (2 year old BX24 tractor)

The tractor will start and if it's been sitting a while run well at what ever idle you set. But if you try and work it. It bogs down and seems like it's running out of fuel. After this starts happening it gets worse and worse till it won't run at all. Let it set for an hour and you can repaeat the above statement.

Here's whats been done so far.

Added fuel treatment for possible gelling issue. No change

New fuel filter (both of them) Didn't get any flow from the open lines to speak of when I disconnected the lines form the filters.

Primed and restarted. No change.
Disconnected fule line from injector pump and tried to blow it back to the tank with compressed air. No bubbles or turbulance in the tank.

I have noticed that if I let the electric pump run with the line disconnected I only get a trickle of fuel most of the time. Sometimes I will get a little more than others.

Thanks in advance for any help!

This has been discussed alot lately. I replaced my rear filter about a month ago and it was clogged up. When I took the filter off, fuel poured out the fuel line, which is not the case with yours. I could tell when I put the new filter on, alot more fuel was coming through it. As I am sure you guessed, if you force air into the fuel line, it should show up in the tank. I have a BX2350, and I don't think there is a shut off or filter in the tank, but I'm not sure. If I'm correct that means you either have a clogged fuel line or tank. Someone posted a while ago about having debris in the tank that would float off and allow it to run sometimes. Can you get it warmed up really well?Power service also makes something called 911 which is suppose to help with fuel that is already gelled. That should melt everything so to speak. The gelling can get really bad. If that doesn't help I would start out by draining your tank and see what you get. If you still can't get air through the line, its either the intake in the tank plugged up or the fuel line.
It would help to know how you store it? Outside, inside, inside and heated?

Hi

911 is what it's in it for treatment. It comes highly recommended to me froma trustworthy source.

It's kept in a cold barn, lower ground level with a couple horses present in the same space at night so it stays reasonably warm...10 degrees above outdoors or so. But the problem doesn't seem to be temperature related at this point. Although that was the first scenerio we considered.

We couldn't find a shutoff either but it's pretty crowded up around the tank so I figured it was worth asking here.

I guess it's a complete go through for the fuel lines tonight. At least it's not going to be too cold :)

Oh and yes we can get it warmed up pretty good when it'll sputter along for a while at low idle.

Thanks for the response

Sorry, I wan't very clear, I meant get the entire tractor inside some where and get it warmed up. If not a tarp and a heater can help.

rockymt98,

I have experienced the same issue few years back (BX24) and the fuel pump was the problem.

disconnect the fuel line at the second fuel filter (close to engine), turn the ignition and see if you get a good flow. If it is erratic then the pump (provided the filters are ok) is not functioning properly.

Let us know.

I wouldn't think it's the fuel pump. If he can't get air into the fuel tank by blowing in the lines at the fuel pump, he is not getting fuel to the pump.

On my Kubota's there is a cut off valve on the fuel filter assembly. Only one that I know of but neither is your model. I did have an issue with one of the cut offs recently. On mine there is a little screw (Phillips head) that holds the cut off valve handle it. Mine had slipped out somehow and was not working as it should. Took the screw out and pushed the cut off handle back in and reinserted the screw with no problems. Does your model tractor used a fuel pump to get fuel out of the tank or just gravity? If it is running out of fuel, would seem the filter would be empty. Does your filter have a clean bowl so you can tell? You should have a very good flow when the valve is open and filter if off. If not I would look for trash in the tank. I had a wasp in mine once and that was fun to find. Dark body in dark fuel in dark tank.

Based upon all you said it sure sounds as fuel, but check the air intake also. Clogged filter or insect nest could also be an issue but yours sounds like fuel.

I've been having this same problem on my 2 yr old BX24. It started when the temp was in the teens or below. I thought at one point I had fixed it by simply adding fuel treatment but it happened one more time after that. During these episodes, the normal "klatter" of the fuel pump was intermittent or didn't make any sound at all. I assumed that gelled fuel had it gummed up but when the fuel treatment didn't fix it, I'm now starting to think a faulty fuel pump might be the real culprit. I won't know until it does it again, or until you guys figure it out for me!:D

Hi folks. Sorry for the lack of response from me on this issue. been a bit busy with other things. The tractor had to wait.

I finally took the fuel lines apart yesterday and had no flow from the tank at the first filter hose. Blew it back with compressed air and voila. Good flow.

Emptied the tank through the open line and it flowed well until it was empty.

Took a coat hanger and made a swab with a clean rag. Swabbed out the tank and out came a big chunk of curly plastic some particles that looked like wasp wings and some small straw pieces. The plastic looks like trimmings from the tank when it was molded. Easily enough curly plastic stuff to plug up that small line.

Hopefully I got it all. It would be a nasty job to pull that tank outside in the cold.

Ran it for three hours or so afterwards cleaning up the barnyard and it's like a new machine again!

Thanks for all the replies!
