Kubota UDT Vs. Super UDT

Two weeks ago I price checked UDT and SUDT at my local dealer.UDT was about $62 and SUDT was about $87/5 gallon pail.I went in Monday to buy 2 pails of UDT for my deceased friend's L3010HST and they wanted $98/pail fot UDT.Of course I objected the price. They did some updates to the pricing over the weekend and came back with bulk pricing around the $62 price-filters had gone down a little as well.I didn't price SUDT but about 16 months ago I paid $94 for SUDT for my B3030HSDC and this past summer I price checked SUDT at $122.Draw your own conclusions.

When I was getting close to my 50 hour fluid change out, I too struggled with the same question of what to use in the hydraulic sys. From what I read SUDT is thinner than UDT so may not work as well in hot weather climates.
But SUDT is a high grade oil and came in my machine. I had to consider what to buy as I only wanted to change it once because as we have cold weather and can have hot summers (sometimes) I needed a all season fluid. Swepco or Amsoil were the only synthetic lubes I was going to use. Amsoil was my choice because of availability at the time. We use a lot Swepco at work anytime we have need solve an issue with fan bearings or gear boxes, these lubricants will lower operating temperatures and reduce the chances of metal transfer when a Babbitt bearing finally fails. Better lubricants reduces wear and lower temperatures and contaminates in oil. Better oil filters are below 20 micron sizes keep this in mind when purchasing. Stick with the proper SAE weight synthetic and you can't go wrong.. The cooling fan for the transmission is small and relies on your transmission being clean, this is not always the case with oil and mud flying around, good clean fluids is cheap insurance. my two cents only..
PS: my GMC Saturn came with synthetic fluids, but it also has a Honda drive train.:)

I thought only the hydraulic filter had to be changed at 50 hrs., not the fluid too. Of course my l3940 is gst so maybe the hydro's are different?

you don't have to change the hydraulic at 50 hrs. I was interesting in checking the pump screen and figured that i might as well change the hole mess at the same time.

Hi, New to this forum and I think it's great!

My L3400 Operator's Manual shows you can use either UDT or SUDT. Wonder why digdug1's Maunal says only use SUDT for his 3240? I know he's got the Grand L, but aren't the tractors about the same size and similar hydralic systems?

I asked the Dealership (Zimmerer Kubota) for a gal in case I need to top it off. They sold me UDT becuase they said that's what is in my tractor and that's all I need.

Sounds like SUDT is more of a multi grade/viscosity. Being in Texas also, I don't worry about the cold too much like up North. I'm more concerned about the hot summers.

Here's a link that compares SUDT, UDT and some other commercial fluid.

Kubota Super UDT Fluid

For us in Texas, we wouldn't be concerned with the 1st graph, as the comparision was tested at -30 degrees C (-22 degrees F).

The 3rd graph is interesting. At 7K cycles the UDT losses it's friction coefficient stability and begins to fall. But the SUDT remains closer to stable. The question is, how long is 7K cycles? If 50 hours of time on the tractor is much les that 7K cycles, then it wouldn't make a difference on the first 50 hours. But according to my Manual, the next Transmission Fluid change is at 400 hours. It may be a good time to go with SUDT.

Does anyone know the average cycles the fluid goes through in 1 hour?

Your Kubota is a Big Investment and I recomend protecting it with the Best Fluid. Go with the Super UDT , It's cheap compared to the Tractor price. You won't need to change it again for hundreds of hours of use.

Kubota HST Filter = $71.20
Kubota Hydraulic filter = $40.39
Kubota Engine Oil Filter = $10.38
Rotella 15w40 (6qts) = $19.00
Kubota SUDT (5 gal) $120 X2 = $240
Kutota SUDT (2 gal) = $62

Total = $442.97
x.0825 (tax)

Grand Total kubota oil change = $479.51

Maybe Dargo is right!...I cant afford this machine!!

My gosh. Was this guy wearing a mask? I can change all the oils and filters on my B7800 for less than $150.00. All Kubota parts. And that's not all that cheap. I'm sorry but a $442.97 oil change would not be an option to me.

Halaluela!!! I thought $479 was a little steep myself. I guess I need to quit hanging around with all these rich folks.

Hey Altex - my manual states it is perfectly ok to use UDT or SUDT. The operators manual does not say that one is better than the other. My dealer claims UDT is all that is needed down here in Texas.

digdug1, I agree. That's what my dealer says too, UDT.

Which Kubota Dealership do you go to, Lanford, Taylor or Edwald? I live in Aubrey but am relocation/looking for acreage in So. Austin, Dripping Springs-Driftwood area.
