I brought my new X540 home today and I wanted to know what the best way to disable the seat saftey switch was. I will be the only one using the machine and I don't want to have to lock the parking brake to crank it. Also is there a way to bypass the mow in reverse switch that is in place? Thanks for any help with this. I know that the saftey features are in place for a reason but I am not used to these two things and I could get by better without them.

Welcome to TBN.

I would not disable any safety switch on it.

You will get use to them, if i run over a yellow jackets nest i want my equipment to shut off.

I know a man that lost two toes because all the safety switches was disabled.

Here's how I disabled the lawyer switches on my 4200 and L130. It's simple, cheap (as long as you don't get hurt) and you do it at your own risk.

The pictures are from my L130; but the 4200 seat switch is similar.

The seat switch on my JD4200 will get a good look as soon as it warms up. Right now it has a tendency to do it's thing when I'm moving around on the seat trying to see behind me.:D

09 x450, the seat switch can be disabled by unplugging it and then taking a short piece of wire with both ends cleaned of insulation and forming it into a U shape. Now just plug the U shaped wire into the switch.
The PTO reverse can be gotten around by pulling up on the PTO switch. I use a plastic clip to hold up on the switch all the time and this keeps it from disengaging the pto when in reverse. While disabling saftey switches is not recommended. Do so at your own risk.

Sincerely, Dirt

Here's a pic of the type clip I use for the pto switch. You can use a smaller one if you like.

I have to say, I understand the reverse pto switch thing - it is a pain in the butt ... but the seat switch? That's plain dangerous. Just put on the brake and lock it down ... you should just lock down the brake when you get off it and shut it down ... then the seat switch won't bother you. it takes 2 seconds. Having said that, I've had a tractor - simplicity hydro (with a non working brake lock - creap away from me because I did just what you're asking, good thing I cought it because it would have taken some paint off my new f150 if I didn't.

When he takes the seat switch loose and someone gets killed, then they can't blame me or you.

And when he or someone gets hurt, or some kind of property damage
happens, no kind of insurance will pay for it.

I keep a jumper handy, as my seat becomes so stiff & hard when really cold that I cannot trip the safety switch with my weight on the seat.... doesn't happen often, but it does happen. Only used as a temporary solution, for reason stated.

I had a X495 and the reverse switch is a pain but it is also very easy to get used too. Mow a few times and give it a chance. When I got my 4310 I would find myself reaching for the switch when backing up. Did that for the first year!!!!!
