Oil & Fuel 2305 oil change

I checked after it sat all night, and it was still at the same level. There were quite a few bubbles, but apparently not enough to bring it down very much at all.

I drained 3/4 qt (couldn't save the oil), and now it is just below full. Looks like the amount needed to fill this thing is about 2 3/4 - 3 qt. Kind of irritating at $4.00 per qt.

Todd, thanks for posting this information. My dealer told me the same thing and I am nearing my first oil change. I would have done the same thing you did thinking that is the way its suppose to be. I have found out that those manuals are not always reliable, they are vague on their explanations at best.

You guys aren't seeing big mice, the 2305 manual does say 3.4 qts. However, I find it hard to see why Deere/Yanmar upped the fossil fuel requirement to give the same performance???

I actually put three in, and it looked good. However, the tractor was sloping ever-so-slightly sidways with the dipstick on the down side (driveway is sloped a bit). I though that was what was making it read high. Dummy me dumped in the extra 2/5ths qt and it was too much.

I'll bet 3 qts is about perfect.

This happended to me, added about 3.4, and ended up overfilling.

Have have 180 hours on my 2305 and 3 quarts is what I use and ends up being the perfect amount.

3.4 quarts is probably the amount if there is abosolutely NO residual oil in the engine. Remeber, there is going to be some oil still in the engine after it has been drained.

I just fill it like the tranny, add a little and check, add a little and check, till it gets where it needs to be.

I just performed my 50 hour oil change, replacing the oil and filter. I used exactly 3.25 quarts (3 quarts, 8 ounces). The dipstick is exactly at the "full" line.

This is the method I used. After draining the old oil and replacing the filter, I filled with 3 quarts, started the engine for a minute or so. Then I added oil and measured until it was almost to the full line on the dipstick, started the engine for another minute, then added until it was right at the full line. Then I rode the tractor around for about 5 minutes, waited 5 minutes after turning off the engine and measured again....it's still at the full line.

This might be a silly question...does anyone know what quantity of oil the hatched area on the 2305 dipstick represents? I'll assume it's a quart.

i bet you five dollars that when your engine is "cold" -- the OM states to check the oil level when the engine is "cold" -- it's gonna read way over full.

My dealer told me to go 100 hrs for the 790 on the break-in. They have had tractors eating oil after a 50hr change. Most of the time, it was from running compact tractors 5-10 mins at a time for the whole 50 hours. The engine would never get to operating temp or full loads in general not REALLY using the darned thing. The fix after a disgruntled owner complaned of new tractor using oil after break-in, was hook it to the dyno, actually make the thing work, get to oper. temp and a good load, full throttle for an hour. Oil consumption quit, engine ran better. I found four quarts plus some in the pre-filled filter from same gallon is perfect. Manual calls for 4.3qts
