Dealer Dickerin with Dealers?

I think a source like Barlows is great, if you know what you are doing. I did not know about them when I bought and I definately did not know a thing about tractors. I did some "technical" and price research online. Got a good feeling for price points for my area (as well as across the country)

I went to the dealer twice, bought on the second visit - I did not dicker. Told the guy what I wanted to do and that I thought that the BX24 was a good fit. He asked me some questions and essentially anticipated and answered all of mine. He handed me a quote, right inline with what I expected to pay, threw in some extras (toothbar and BH thumb which I would never have thought to ask about), and said he would leave me alone to think it over. Wife and I went to lunch, discussed, and went back and bought.

I don't regret it - get treated very well by everyone in the shop whenever I go in - many times just to browse and ask questions. The owner remembered my name even though I only spoke to him briefly, once. This is a good feeling being a complete noob - dealer answering stupid questions without an attitude like, "dumb homeowner".

I feel now I have enough expertise to by from someone like Barlows, but I would still give my dealer first crack - for the same reason mentioned earlier - good local dealer, I want to keep him around. The savings would have to be significant to make me go elsewhere. If I paid $1000 too much (which I doubt)on my first go around, so be it - another $28 dollars a month at 0% - I look at it like a kind of insurance.

I will haggle if the situation calls for it - I used to haggle hard on any major purchase - but what you end up saving generally, to me, doesn't seem worth the effort most times

I think Barlows is running a special right now free delivery for 500 miles. I'm pretty sure they will go further someone on here bought one in Arizona and had it delivered. Plus you save sales tax so for me delivery was a wash.

That person from Arizona is me. Brady worked with me through my hand wringing to decide between the 7800, 2920 and finally the tractor I purchased which is on it way as I type.. Delivery over the weekend or first of the week, depending on the other stops he has in Oklahoma.

I purchased a B3200, FEL, BH, Thumb, Ballast Box, Loaded tires and some small accessories. I couldn't decide on a rear blade so I will get that later.

As I mentioned in the other post, Brady will ship it direct (one trailer one tractor) or if you do as I did and wait until he gets a full load together heading in your direction then you will save on the delivery. I looked long and hard and I couldn't find a better deal even if you include the delivery.

I couldn't believe how I was treated by some dealers, talk about attitude. The dealer that was the worst was the dealer that was the closest to me. The stories I could tell.. but I won't because I don't think it's fair.

In an economy like we are in to quote prices that were so out of line that all they needed was a gun to make it a real robbery. Some were absolutely absurd.

By doing my homework and asking questions here on TBN I felt completely comfortable with Barlow's pricing and also that Brady would live up to what he told me he was going to do. I never felt I had to haggle with him about the prices he quoted me because I knew what he quoted was fair.

I'm stoked to get my B3200 and start putting it to work on my property.

If you want immediate delivery that costs more on Amazon and almost every where. I stopped at Barlows yesterday and bought a B3200 from them. Steve said they sent a truck with 4 tractors to Northeast Tuesday evening at 6PM and one had already been dropped off in Maryland and driver was on his way further north from there. My understanding is the charge for delivery would be spread out between the 4 which would only be a few hundred dollars each. Guess there are 4 more new Kubota owners in the northeast today. Even at $1 a mile from Ky to Va that won't be $2500 unless someone got really lost.

I didn't see him come thru MD ::)
I do see a lot of tractors coming in a thru the port of baltimore. ONe of the red brands imports them there, they come in crated without wheels. They add the wheels at a local facility and then I see them on the trucks going down I70.

I didn't buy a Kubota, but did go to the dealer and talk to the salesman a few times. I didn't care for him, and I thought the price was too much. When I asked him to explain why I should spend $4,000 more for a Kubota, he said because it's a better tractor. While I agree that Kubota makes a great tractor, he couldn't tell me why it was better. Just kept saying that it's better.

Anyway, since then, I've fond that the parts department and service department at that same Kubota dealership is first class. They are really good, do what they say they will and get right back to me with an answer or price if they don't have it right away. They will stop what they are doing to answer my questions.

Since I was so impressed with them with the support I've received on my Landpride mowers, I went back to them to look at their zero turn mowers. That previous sales guy was gone, but the new one was just as bad. I went there really wanting to try out the mowers and had it in my mind that it was one of the top choices of what I was looking at before getting there based on the parts department. But ten minutes of talking to the sales guy, and I was getting that same feeling that I had a few years earlier.

Reading everyones replies, I wonder if I had just done it online and not met those sales guys face to face, if I would have bought Kubota? I wanted one, still think they are the top of the line brand with a very good support system, but the have the most arrogant, cocky salespeople that I've come across. At least at my local dealership.

I agree with GOTCHA. I've bought 6 from them in the last 5 years, Doubt you'll beat their price and I believe they'll give you their price at first shot so you don't have to waste your or their time by trying to beat them down another $100. They may even give you a Kubota hat if you ask.:)

JOHNTHOMAS, look what I got in the mail today. Now need to send off a nice thank you note to Somerset KY. :)
I kinda wish it had Barlow Equipment on it so there would be some advertisement for them also.

Get yourself a black marker and write BARLOW EQUIPMENT on it. Guess you've read recent posts where I returned and have more hats coming due to buying a B3200 from Brady with Steve doing the paper work.

You betcha I did and the best of luck with it. I just can't understand why you want to wait until next Monday or Tuesday to take delivery as you can drive it home and it's made for playing in mud. Good luck with it and let's see who can say more, you or me about our greatest salesperson for Kubota tractors.:)

I'm not waiting. Stopped by and picked up my 3 hats, traded forks and Steve is delivering the B3200 this evening. Next trade I want a Kubota stool and not hats!
