Have you ever turned over a tractor?

I have been on a tractor for over 35yrs and I have never had a problem or heard of a problem in my area which is lower Alabama. But the main thing is to never get in a hurry and alway think before you crank that tractor up.

Agreed.

I lived in northwest Florida, often jokingly refered to as LA, or lower Alabama, and it was flat as a pancake. Not to say you can't roll a tractor on flat land, but it might be less common where it is real flat.

We do not have mountains in lower Alabama but we do have hill in Baldwin county and we have quite a few on my land. The point that I was trying to make is that for ever dumb thing that I have done on a piece of equipment I told myself in my head that I should not be doing this. That is why I said think before you use a piece of equipment and if you are new to it go slowly.

This fella called me and said he had his tractor stuck and needed some help. He got a little too greedy mowing. No one hurt and I pulled it up and held it while he drove to the bottom of the ditch.

We let it sit for about 15 min and started it up. Only lost some water out of the battery.

Talking to some forrestry workers once gave me a nice insight on learning curves related to this topic.

These guys have an unwritten law to fix drivers to a tractor. No exchange of equipment and certainly no newbies of the roadgrid.

Son and father working in forrest driving a beaten old Zetor. Son is waiting for the father to retire before investing in a new tractor just because "the old man" does not have enough time left learning a new tractor. That statement was purely based on the slope-handling of the tractor, guess he knows what the PTO handle is for.

If you look what they are doing and where they go with their tractors i surely can imagine they are working in the red zone of any inclinometer all day long.
According them that is on the safe side of the limit..

No meter, buzzer or indicator can beat experience i guess

if he had had the duals installed he probably would have made it.

The older and newer tractors with a near 80" rear tire spacing have very little problem when used within reason on hills. Do they need ROPs, It would have to be a very robust one. These old tractors would slide before tip over on grassland. Dual tires would have made it very difficult to tip unless something stupid happened like a big rock. I would not like to rely on a ROPS when the tractor has too high of a center of gravity to begin with. Many compact tractors these days are very narrow and the ROPS is just a bandade, it you need to go on a side hill then the wheel base has to be as wide as it can be or more. A rops puts even more weight high up and gives you a sense of confidence. Common sense is the rule before rollover.
