satelitte dish

I saw a portable herb and veggie gden made from one once. A man came to my shop one winter and wnated me to make a 4 wheel wagon. It was smal land when I was done he brought the dish by. we bolted it in place and he had me fill it with manure and topsoil. It worked great je took a mesh sfaced one and drilled out the rivets and that lfet a set of ribs he then mounted that on top to make a saucer shaped rig. Then he put plexi glasson it and made a portable mini green house. Ive also seen them unbolted and the halves bolted them to wood posts to make a clam shaped box with a a top. He put sand in it and made a shaded sand box for his grand kids.

I've tried to get a buddy of mine with a fish farm to use ours as a giant minnow seine on the 3PT of his tractor. If not, I'm going to coat the mest with trailer roof paint and use it as a roof on one of my hunting stands.

When I went to the smaller dish,16/18 inch or so, I sold the solid 10ft. dish to some guy that was paying real money and buying up all of the big dishes. He was using them to make some sort of radio wave receiver and listing for some alien to contact him.

Kind of wish I had it now as it would make a good roof for a gazebo.

Someone around here took their old dish and turned it to the road and then painted it yellow with a smiley face on it. :)

A friend of ours dug a shallow hole in the ground that matched the contour of the dish, and used it for a fire pit.It was very easy to clean out the ashes once in a while, and it has lasted several years.

I can see it now out on the farm. a roof for the walk up feeder, maybe a chicken gazebo, screened in with it keeping them shaded, or the mini duck pond.

He must be one of those guys Tom Bodett was talking about. Seems that there are a group of people trying to make contact with intelligent life on other planets. So far, no luck. Tom Bodett says the intelligent life out there knows were here- They just don't want to talk to us. That proves they're intelligent. Our planet is known thoughout the universe as the ones who pee in their own drinking water...

Theres a home near where I live that has several in there yard. One inverted on the other welded together and mounted on poles. Made to look like "UFO's" landing in there yard. To each his own. Terry

Cover it with mirror film and turn it into a solar collector?

Best idea so far. For my daughter's 8th grade science project, we took a 24" diameter motorcycle rim and glued reflective mylar on both surfaces, effectively making a shallow drum the height of the rim thickness. We ran a tube out the former air inlet hole and sealed everything up. When we pulled a vacuum thru the tube, the two surfaces of the "drum" became concave, roughly approximating a parabola. Reflecting the sun onto a 2X4 got it hot enough to smoke. Now, take a 9 foot parabolic dish with a more accurate parabolic shape and it has 20 times the area focused better than the crude science project. The temperatures at the focal point would be incredible.
