The Daily Southerner, Tarboro, NC - Montana Tractors moving to Tarboro

Montana Tractors is moving its operations from Arkansas to Tarboro.

Tony Pearce of Montana and Oppie Jordan of Carolinas Gateway Partnership made the announcement at the Tarboro Town Council meeting Monday night.

展e plan to move all production, service, part and logistical assets to Tarboro no later than July 30, stated Ted Wade, vice chairman and co-owner, in a news release.

Wade said Montana, which closed on the acquisition of Farmtrac North America痴 assets Dec. 1, has been conducting 殿n extensive analysis on the capacity of the assets we purchased.

é„*s a result we have identified a tremendous amount of efficiencies we can realize through a consolidation of operations in Springdale, Ark., to our newly acquired facilities in Tarboro.

The move will mean new jobs in Tarboro, eventually.

Some employees will be offered the opportunity to relocate.

Pearce, director of operations and a former Farmtrac employee, said the company on Main Street currently had 16 to 18 full-time and contract employees and planned to hire more this month.

é„*fter that, he said, 努e値l let the demand determine how many more people we add.

The company will assemble tractors and continue producing front-end loaders and backhoes.

The timeline for moving essential, administrative staff, accounting personnel and sales support from Springdale 妬s situational dependent at this point, Wade said.

Carolinas Gateway Partnership, the economic development agency for Tarboro, Rocky Mount, Nashville, Edgecombe and Nash counties, has applied for a $485,000 Building and Reuse Grant from the state Carolina Rural Economic Development Center.

I don't see why Escort would pay for those expenses. Unless they were a partner with Montana and were trying to cut back on import costs I don't see where they would gain anything. I guess my next question is... are they partnered with Montana?

I think you are right. From what I have been reading over the past couple of months there seems to be a couple pieces of the puzzle missing.

Is montana and LS together now? Or is there some other secret that the rest of us will have to keep guessing on until somebody fills us in. Just a farmtrac owner trying to get a little info. All info appreciated.

No LS and Montana are not "together", but LS is still the manufacturer of the tractors for Montana as the distributor, so yes they are still "together".

Montana moving to Tarboro really makes sense because Tarboro has the production building/equipment to make loader/backhoes for their own tractors now. It will also bring jobs back for the people of Tarboro that were hurt when Farmtrac closed.
