yes I would like to have a deckover trailer but I was trying to keep it low as possible for ease of loading and wind drag issues.. lowboy with no side rails would have been idea in hindsight..
Wing drag issues with that truck pullin???? I'll agree a deckover can have some loading issues at times but never with a tractor like you have. My JD5400 idles up onto my deckover nice and easy. Now that I have one I will never look back.

Thats a thought as well but
* I would still like to stop the bucket from direct conact to the top rail, preferably get the weight back on the deck..
That's easy just remove the top deck rail where the bucket would set.

Beautiful looking trailer, I wouldn't want to hack it up either.

Is it just going to rest on the 2 sides? or is it going to overhang the front pipe as well?

I see no reason to support it on the deck just go with the 2x pads.
If it's just resting on the 2 sides, instead of a long piece bridging across from pipe to pipe just bolt 2 pieces parallel with the top of the pipes where the bucket will rest. use U-bolts to make it more stable. No drilling the pipes and you don't have to remove them, will have to counter sink for the bolts and nuts so they don't extend above the top of the wood.

A 4x4 cut out on the bottom to mate with and drop down over the pipe a little would be nice.

Easier yet, glue some heavy duty rubber padding on the top pipe where the contact will be made, or split some pvc or abs pipe and and clamp it with some hose clamps.

What about those large structural gussets between the vertical and horizontal frame sections on the front of the trailer, looks like they will keep you back about a foot from the front of the trailer?

Good Luck,
JB.

Wind drag is somewhat an issue when hauling two lifted very tall jeeps, they have areodynamics of brick, was trying keep fuel economy as best as possible.

Thanks for the compliment JB.
I think an inch or so of overhang would be great, I have a linemans blanket that came from a power Co. years ago, its thick but pliable rubber I could cut and neatly glue to the top rail...
Reason Im need overhang is so the tractor would not have to be near perfectly centered in order for the bucket to rest on the top rail and still have a little leeway. Hitting bumps on road the bucket would not be prone to come off one of top rails.

Can not do that. Top rail is a big part of the structure of a trailer. It will bend like a pretzel if you take it off.
