WHERE CAN I GET IT BUILT?

HELLO ALL: After lots of reading and research, I have come up with the optimum (for me) plan for utility, and the hauling my B-4240 Kubota with loader and backhoe:
A: Heavy duty, gooseneck dump trailer with 16 foot bed and two 7,000 pound braked axles.
B: Flat bed with stake pockets and perimeter tie down rings for chain binders.

That's not too far out, but certainly non standard. Can any of you give me suggestions as to a builder(s) to check out my requirements with? I'm looking for quality and sound engineering at a reasonable (but NOT "lowball" or "cheapie") price.

Your thoughts and input will be greatly appreciated!!! This is a great group of forums. I read a lot of posts before selecting my tractor and coming up with this trailer plan. I will certainly keep the group posted on how this turns out...

I have a fabricator near me that is TOP NOTCH! Reasonable prices and fabulous engineering and purdy looking welds.

I got my 16' tandem from HedererBuilt in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
it's a bumper pull , but at the time I ordered it he told me he could do a GN for $450 more.
not sure if he does a 14k rated trailer - or a dump, though, but it can't hurt to check his website to see.

another option you might check is Titan - they seem to have a pretty decent rep.

I would be worried about a dump trailer without permanent sides. I feel the sides give it much of the needed support when dumping and you will end up tweaking the dump bed with the removable sides you spec.

Will your tractor with loader and backhoe fit on a 16' trailer? I have an 18' trailer and really need a 22 or 24 for my L39 to set the backhoe bucket on the bed so it meets local DOT rules.

in my opinion it wont be cost effective. I was looking at a small trailer for my father to pull with his jeep. i wanted just a small 5x10 with dual axels and brakes...3k because it was all custom...I can go to TSC and get a standard 5x10 for 900.

Thats often the case with small trailers... Custom is expensive. Mostly, custom builders also build more durable. Do you need that ?

You could also buy standard and install the D-rings yourself.

Last year when i changed jobs, i was also offered a job at major heavy equipment trailer builder: They wanted to start a new department, next to standard and custom:
Their custom trailers are sold world wide, extendible to 50 meters (windmill poles) or with 15 axles to transport the biggest dozers or plant components.
Next to that, they build a lot of standard lowboy trailers.

They wanted me to work on their modification department: Everything too standard for the special trailer line, but also too much options to build them on the standard line (i worked a month on their assembly line some years ago: some folks just build 1 trailer type and get confused when they build a 4 axle instead of a 3 axle trailer)
This would give them a cost and time benefit because their all-round employees could do the tricky jobs, and the average employees could do the easier parts of the job.

However if you have a welder, you could make some rings yourself.

Good point, you cant just remake a rigid sided dump box into one with removable sides.
However at my former employer we built both styles, with rigid sides as lowdeck, and deck-over with removable sides, for two reasons:
A. removable sides arent useful if you have the wheels beside the deck
B. deck-over gives more room to build the dual frame, which this dump box with removable sides is going to need.

its not impossible to build, but a standard dumpbox, in most cases, needs reinforcement when converted to foldable sides.

I saw some of your earlier posts regarding Loudo Enterprises. Did you ever get to inspect one of their units up close? If so, what did you think?

Instead of rings, after welding stake pockets, 2X4 rec tubing on 2ft intervals to the crossmembers and putting a 3/8 flatbar the full length of the side of the trailer I can hook the chain anywhere along the side I want. I have also done it this way for my flatbed trucks.

1*I'm not clear as to why placement of wheels has any bearing on why you would have to choose between fixed or removable side boards.
3*sure they are you can still load/unload a skid with a set of forks from the side either for or aft of the wheels/fenders.
Sames goes for loading/unloading dirt gravel etc from the sides with a loader or BH.
5*I'm not talking about a dump bed trailer just regular and tilt beds.
