I don't do big trees anymore. Last one I did, I had a hole in the ground about 15' wide and 7' deep and still working to get it out. I finally did. Next time, I paid for a guy to do it. One swipe on either side of the tree, then push it over..

As for the stumps, I could barely roll them around, and one I couldn't!

Lately I've just been cutting off, leaving stump sticking up so I won't run over a 8" tall stump. Time will take care of the rest..

Deputy, your property is looking a lot like mine, rocks all over the place (for me literally), cut up trees stacked (I used the random stacking method also) and lots of dirt.

The boss and mini-boss are looking for grass, I've got a spring and summer full of clean up to do, I've got basically 9 years of tearing around the house on tractors and dozers to clean up after, not pretty, but I think it will come together fairly quickly once I get focused.

Pulling the trees was an important first step.

You'd be surprised how much better it will look after you drive around randomly with a York rake for a couple of hours. I used to do it in an organized fashion (rows etc) but found that random raking does a nicer job and helps level things out. It is one of the few tractor tasks that is both safe and better done with a beer in your hand.

Hmmmm....danger in my hand is a cup of coffee. Apparently, the level of caffeine is commensurate with the level of my RPMs. I too like the random method for raking. The erratic nature of that program also goes well with a strong cafe latte (or three)- I'm always swinging my head around to find the next route over a spot that may have been only lightly touched.

Beer or caffeine, the bottom line is that about one bladderful worth of random raking per acre is about right.

JUNE 6th is the date, Rick has it in his signature line.

I am really looking forward to the burgers and dogs. Hope its a little cooler than last year, man was it hot.

Thanks guys for the advice on the raking, I've been using the box blade for the rough work and will use the york rake for the finish work. They are both great tools.

mine is a modern implements 4 footers, I got when I had my smaller tractor. Mine is heavy duty, with the wheels on the back. I like it a lot and as island stated does a really good job of grading if the ground is soft enough. With the size of my tractor my rake is small, but I use very infrequently, if I used it more I'd sell and get bigger.

They tilt from side to side.

Great all purpose grading and raking tool. Good at getting rocks out as long as there are no sticks or roots to get clogged up.
