Thought I'd post up a few pics of the first mowing of the season for me. Should have been a week ago, but it was too wet. Still had some soft spots I needed to stay away from, but I had some grass that was getting to be a foot tall or so.

The Frontier GM1072R did a beautiful job, as usual. Can't say enough about how much the cut quality of this mower impresses me, even in heavy grass.

Also, moved some building materials around. Have I mentioned yet today how much I love my pallet forks?

Nice pictures. Last year when I bought my tractor I bought the same mower, except it has "Woods" decals instead of "John Deere", and it amazes me the cut quality it has. The mower came from the factory with high lift blades and once you start the machine you can see every blade of grass that is within a 6 inch radius of the mower just getting sucked towards it. It is a really heavy duty, high class mower.

Good to hear from you Runner, and good to see that the green grass is headed this way! :D It does look like I'll be mowing a bit earlier than normal this year. I see that the RFM went on first this year too..... I'm still debating mowing with my B series Kubota, and which mower to get if I do. I'll have to decide pretty quickly I guess. Hope you have a great spring down your way!

I only mow trails and areas around my orchard and big garden. I only mow big areas if they get a significant amount of invasives or tree sprouts in there that I don't want. No sense mowing areas where you're not walking yourself. Mowing keeps down unwanted growth. You can do this by mowing only every couple of years. Mow where you're going to be walking or playing to keep ticks down.

Mowing already? I haven't even gotten my MMM out of storage yet! Seriously the grass just turned green here a few days ago in sunny tropical southern Minnesota.

Why not just use the simplicty?
What I use is a 48'' on a BX1500 and a 60'' on a BX23.
It's nice to have 2 mowers and 2 drivers when I wan't to get the mowing done quickly.

The Simplicity gives a nice cut, and I've been using it for all my mowing for the past 10 years, or so. I wish it had a larger deck for trimming, and because I mow over 3 acres. I bought the 48" deck because of all the big rocks I had to go between when I bought it. I removed many of them with the backhoe on my BX22 when I had that, so I have room for a larger deck now. Trouble is that it sure would cost a penny to replace the Simplicity with another, or a JD X700 which is the equivalant, and I like the material collection system on the Simplicity. Being a commercial weight deck, and having that full width rear roller, the deck is a bit hard to get off, and on sometimes now with the medical issues I'm dealing with too. Still, it works, and that is probably what I'll continue to do.

Chuck,

I always cut in around the edges and trees with my little JD185 lawn tractor. The whole time, while I'm being beat to death doing it, I think how much I would love to have something like that Simplicity, with a wider deck, 4WD and power steering to do it with.

Oh well, it makes the 2520 feel like a Cadillac when I get on it to do the rest of the yard.....

Yes, I looked at one when I bought some parts for mine. Mine is 2WD, and has the 48" deck which is just a hair wider than the tractor. The tractor is solid though, and a very good size for my land. I think I paid around $6500 for it with the turbo collection system, and deck new.
