- Down to my lovable little red Mahindra with FEL, and backhoe.
I've got a 2015 4WD that developed a leak from the transmission in the last couple of weeks. I cannot tell where the fluid is coming from, but it collects and drips from the area between center case (the case shown on the left, below) and the housing that connects to the rear axles (the housing shown on the right, below). It really appears to be coming from the bottom center of the center case.
For the past week I've been under the tractor several times with a flashlight and paper towels trying to figure out if it is a seal, loose bolts, etc., or if I really even have a leak. When it is just parked, and wiped clean and dry, it drips about a half-teaspoon a day. If I've been using the tractor, it drips a little more for the first several hours. It is possible that it is just the Permatex-like material between the two housings. My biggest fear is that I have a hairline crack in one of the housings. In any case, I suspect that the repair will not be trivial, and certainly not something I wish to tackle. Just getting the dealer to pick it up and bring it back will be about $100 ($2.50 per loaded mile).
I called my dealer this morning after fully confirming that I do indeed have a leak. The tractor was delivered 34-1/2 months ago, so I should still be within the 36 month power train warranty. Unfortunately, I was told that this would not be covered under warranty. They told me that only internal power train components, like gears and shafts, are covered.
I cannot find anything in any of the papers or manuals that came with the tractor that explains the power train warranty. Everything just says to contact my dealer for details. There doesn't seem to be anything on the website either.
I trust my dealer, but does anybody really know for sure if this is true?
Thanks,
Knute
