Tractor
Down to my lovable little red Mahindra with FEL, and backhoe.
I've got a 2015 4WD that developed a leak from the transmission in the last couple of weeks. I cannot tell where the fluid is coming from, but it collects and drips from the area between center case (the case shown on the left, below) and the housing that connects to the rear axles (the housing shown on the right, below). It really appears to be coming from the bottom center of the center case.

For the past week I've been under the tractor several times with a flashlight and paper towels trying to figure out if it is a seal, loose bolts, etc., or if I really even have a leak. When it is just parked, and wiped clean and dry, it drips about a half-teaspoon a day. If I've been using the tractor, it drips a little more for the first several hours. It is possible that it is just the Permatex-like material between the two housings. My biggest fear is that I have a hairline crack in one of the housings. In any case, I suspect that the repair will not be trivial, and certainly not something I wish to tackle. Just getting the dealer to pick it up and bring it back will be about $100 ($2.50 per loaded mile).

I called my dealer this morning after fully confirming that I do indeed have a leak. The tractor was delivered 34-1/2 months ago, so I should still be within the 36 month power train warranty. Unfortunately, I was told that this would not be covered under warranty. They told me that only internal power train components, like gears and shafts, are covered.

I cannot find anything in any of the papers or manuals that came with the tractor that explains the power train warranty. Everything just says to contact my dealer for details. There doesn't seem to be anything on the website either.

I trust my dealer, but does anybody really know for sure if this is true?

Thanks,
Knute

I would think that the housing is part of the drive train. I hope for your sake that your dealer is mistaken. Hopefully one of the dealers that frequent TBN can let us know.

MtnViewRanch..... PTO no matter what the part isn't covered in the power train according to our dealer. I would imagine a housing isn't either. I was told by one dealer, that only meant what was internal and cause the tractor to actually move.

Again the great Mahindra service strikes again.

May not help but why not give Mahindra USA a call and talk to them about the problem your having, really sound more like you may have a hairline crack in the housing which could be a manufacturing defect. Also I'd get the persons name and then send them a registered letter with the information that way they would have a hard time saying it didn't happen before your warranty ran out. It's Mahindra who makes the final call not the dealer, all they can say no, but they have fixed a lot of other problems people have reported on this forum.

The following is from the Mahindra Limited Warranty posted on the 24/7 Owner Care System on the Mahindra Tractor - Compact tractors, utility tractors, farm tractors, ag tractors, attachments, implements & farm equipment - all built tough! website. The terms of the Warranty Agreement are also listed on the Warranty Registration card that you and your dealer signed when you purchased you tractor. Best advice is to contact your dealer. If they have questions, they can contact their Mahindra Field Service Manager.

The components covered by Power Train Warranty consist of the following:
• Engine: The engine crankcase, crankcase pan, cylinder head, rocker arm
cover, timing gear cover and all components fully enclosed within these units.
• Transmission & Rear Axle: The clutch housing (excludes clutch),
CRPTO/Independent PTO Housing, transmission case, differential housing,
final drive housing, drive axles, front axle case, front gear case and
components fully enclosed within these housings.

Dingy, your continual Mahindra bashing is getting old. I for one am tired of it. So you are ticked at Mahindra and determined to cause them as much grief as possible. You might as well just say it. If you know something about this leak, or even about a 2015 tractor, then let's offer some advice.

Knute,

There is a banjo bolt that is sealed by two copper washers. It is located under the seat area on the left side. It is about 15/16" or maybe 7/8", I don't remember. Often they are not tight enough. Remember that it is a hollow bolt, so just snug it up a little. That is about the only leak in that area that we have seen. It runs down and drips off the bottom of the case. It could be that it is leaking between the cases, but we have never seen that happen.

Here is a tip on warranty. If a dealer says it is not covered, ask them to clearly define why it is not covered. I really dislike an over the phone coverage denial when nobody even has defined the problem or the cause.

As for the expense of getting it to the dealer, there is not much you can do unless you haul it yourself. We offer to our customers that if we are in the area dropping off a tractor, we will haul their unit to our shop for free. It just requires that you are a little patient and I bet your dealer would do the same.

Hey, he only related what he was told by his dealer regarding power train warranty, the subject of this thread. His dealer should be his easiest [and is the Mahindra preferred] communication link. I have been thru the Mahindra customer service system and I know that w/o a dealer that is both cooperative and knows the Mahindra ropes, that a customer with a problem is going to have a problem. It seems to me that the forum is suspicious to the point of being dismissive regarding complaints of the type that I can easily believe based on my experience. Just because some have a combination of factors that present good luck dealing with Mahindra [or not needing to deal with them due to no tractor problems] doesnt mean those who have problems with the system should be suppressed.

Larry, with all the problems that you had, I don't remember you being like these guys. Yes they can let everybody know what has happened to them, but to me they are going about it the wrong way. And what you said is likely true as far as the dealer and regional Mahindra rep. But these guys are trying to make the entire Mahindra organization seem as though it is a joke for a company. If they were to read through the many posts that there are, they could see that that simply is not true. I am not saying that they don't have a beef with Mahindra, just that to me, it looks like they are going about taking care of business the wrong way.

Just my opinion, and I think that I am about done with these threads.

First, thank you all for your replies, especially Jsupport and Dave.

Second, I am an extremely satisfied Mahindra owner. I've not had any significant tractor issues until this one. The few other very minor issues were quickly taken care of by my dealer, through Mahindra, on advice from KMW (through this website). I never got to use my 12-month bumper-to-bumper warranty, because nothing went wrong with my little tractor. I am also extremely pleased with KMW -- I have their Mahindra-brand FEL and backhoe for my tractor.

Third, I looked at the warranty on the website. I will say that is the first time I've seen it. I have every slip of paper and invoice related to my tractor, including the sales slips for all the lubricants, filters, clip pins, touch-up paint, small parts, etc., purchased from my dealer. I believe that I bought either the 2nd or 3rd Mahindra from my dealer when they first selling them. Everything was new to them, and they may not have had, or known, about this warranty. Everything was verbal. That said, I think the warranty is very fair, and I feel a lot better about what is covered. As I mentioned above, I trust my dealer, and I don't feel they will take advantage of either me or Mahindra. I will continue to send customers their way.

Fourth -- Dave, thanks for your suggestion about the banjo bolt. At first light in the morning I'll look at it. Also, I don't have any issue with my dealer charging for transportation. I was mostly just mumbling in my beer, thinking about the overall total cost of this repair if none of it is covered under warranty.

Fifth -- Bashing and Discontent. I ask everyone to show a little restraint -- at least here on this thread, as I don't want to see it locked. I feel that if the moderators won't remove the unsubstantiated and libelous comments of a poster, the rest of us should not bait, nor be baited, nor should we even respond to these types of postings. This website is extremely valuable. I've received invaluable advice here from members, the old MUSA poster, RBACK at KMW, and from the many dealers who post here and in other parts of the forum (I've had a lot of other tractors besides my Mahindra, and I've been a poster almost as long as this site has existed -- I just forgot my original password, or somehow got locked out).

Thanks again,
Knute
