Mowing Mower noise

I installed the MMmower to my BX22 for the first time. The mower has been stored in the garage since new, over 4 years. The installation went OK, and it appears to be set up correctly. I tried mowing and I am wondering is the noise it makes is normal? After engaging the clutch it makes sort of a scuffing, whirring sound. Is it possible that there is noise because the belt was left tentioned all this time? Maybe the noise is normal..I can't tell.

Any input would be appreciated.

Poor bellweather. MMM's make all sorts of noises, sorta like second-hand hovercraft.

Maybe you could link a video with it running, otherwise this is just guesswork. Sorry.

My MMM makes noise as all do...Not sure what a "scuffing" sound is...Have you put some time with it running, or did it make noise and you shut it off?

It is possible the belt has taken a set where it rested on the pulleys under tension for 4 years and that is causing the noise. Running time may remove the set or it may need to be replaced. Try rotating the blades by hand while looking at the belt.
Also possible is the bearings on the blade shafts need lubrication. Some people find the deck bearings lacking lube when new. It can take a lot of grease to properly fill the shaft bearings. I also found that a molly ep grease like used on the loader works better and is quieter than regular all purpose grease.

Thanks for the responses. I know it's difficult guessing what the noise sounds like. I'll check the lube, belt, etc for the obvious.

Painfully accurate description. Sometimes I take my ear protection off to marvel at how the combination of mower and bagger impeller drowns the not-so-quiet diesel at WOT to a mere hum.

But at the end of each mow, I take a step back and further marvel at the exemplary mow quality the MMM achieves. Perhaps all the noise is simply the mower blade tips moving near MACH 1.

It's been raining here for some time and I found a break in the weather to mow on Friday. Filled the bagger up heaping 4 times...that's 40 bushels of grass...which is nearly 2 cubic yards of slightly moist, tightly packed grass clippings!!! I remember when purchasing/spreading 2 cubic yards of mulch was a day's work. Now that's what I get in about 45 minutes of mowing!

I love my BX.

My BX2230 is by far the best "lawn tractor" I've ever had. It makes a heck of a noise but nothing out of line. The bagging system is great. My mulch pile needs turning every 3 weeks with all the grass clippings I put in it!

LOL. I just changed my hydro oil and serviced the deck Monday. Was tooling around and with the mower engaged, can't hear the HST at all.
