A funnel cloud passes about 1/2 mile from home.

One passed by here by a couple miles a few years ago. It was my first funnel cloud sighting. Actually, it was a weak tornado because it blew out the windows of a house and uprooted a large tree. They are a frightening, yet awesome sight.

July 1, 1972, in the Texas panhandle, first day of a trip to Alaska in a 3/4 ton pickup pulling a 25' travel trailer, we saw one coming straight at us. My wife was hysterical and I don't supposed I've ever been more frightened by anything. Fortunately, it turned just before it got to us, and I, too, hope to never see another one, at least not that close.

I've never seen one and wonder if I want to. I don't want to see one while at home, but I enjoy that show "Storm Chasers" and I'm curious to see what it's like, but then again, maybe not.

Thanks for sharing the picture.

I LOVE severe weather!!! I've often thought of moving to Tornado Alley. The wife says I'm "not quite right".

I often joke that on the day of my funeral I want a tornadic thunderstorm to blow up and lightning to strike the Church steeple, softball size hail to bust up all the attendee's vehicles and a tornado to uproot/overturn all the headstones in the graveyard.

What a send off THAT would be!!!

My first thought was that your wife is right!:D However, I know that you don't really want to see a tornado up close. You might think you do, but if it ever happens, you'll hope it never happens again. But I, too, enjoy a little thunder and lightning, even moderate winds.:)

A few years ago, I had a drilling project going on near Liberty Hill, NW of Austin and it was hot and humid beyond belief... I remember shutting down several times to give the drill crew a break... Later that day I shut down early simply because of the weather... as I was driving home to Cedar Park I listened to the radio as a tornado hit Jarrell, Texas, a little to the East.. while listening, I sighted several tornado's with one directly over Cedar Park... watching it closely, it was obvious when it touched down... the debris cloud was overwhelming.... Needless to say I was concerned about my wife, daughter and my home in Cedar Park... Thankfully my home and family were safe but it's something I'll never forget.... Before that day I'd never seen a tornado before.. since then I have seen two others... :(
